Geno Smith 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Fantasy Football Outlook
From bridge quarterback to now the Pro Bowl quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. Geno Smith has had a wild career and finally found his home in Seattle. He is coming off a fantastic year, throwing over 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. To add to even greater effect, he earned a career-best passing completion at 69.2%. Are we talking about Smith? Quite simply, we certainly are.
The former backup quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Giants rejuvenated his career in the last few seasons. In March of 2023, Smith signed a three-year extension with the Seattle Seahawks. It certainly shows a lot of faith in Smith when the Seattle Seahawks didn’t draft a quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft. Smith can make another jump in his career this year with his weapons in the organization.
In our 2023 PPR Fantasy Football Rankings, he is 14th ranked in the quarterback category, and overall, he is 110th ranked. The comeback player of the year last season earned his stripes on the team. I wouldn’t be surprised if he can climb up the rankings into the top ten in the quarterback category.
Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023
For the upcoming 2023 NFL season, Smith will look to build on his breakdown 2022 season. Last year, his completion percentage was outstanding and he’ll need to be efficient once again. Furthermore, he also had a top-five Consistency Score ranking for all quarterbacks, with 9.92.
The only four guys above him were:
- Jalen Hurts
- Patrick Mahomes
- Josh Allen
- Joe Burrow
Needless to say, this is an elite group to be in leading up to this season. The Seattle Seahawks have one of the best receivers in the league in DK Metcalf. In 22 games together, Metcalf was 100 yards short of 1,500 receiving yards and over 10 touchdowns. The connection is undoubtedly an explosion in each game.
Furthermore, Tyler Lockett is still the deep-field threat veteran on the team, ready to roll. In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks helped Smith on the offensive end. Rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba, another potential stud wide receiver out of Ohio State, was drafted in the 1st Round. In the 2nd Round, Zach Charbonnet, out of UCLA, was drafted to complement Walker.
Injuries are a concern, but the team still has Walker coming off a 1,050 rushing-yard season as a rookie last year. Smith has all the tools to thrive in this offense again this season as long as injuries don’t ruin the team. Don’t forget Smith can also scramble well, who earned 68 carries for over 300 yards.
Dynasty Football Outlook
Rookies, contract extension, motivation, and elite wide receivers are reasons I am ready to see Smith explode. In our Dynasty rankings, he is 19th ranked in the quarterback category. I understand his age is a factor in his ranking, as he is over 30 years old, but the extension he earned is still viable. All things considered, he is looking to be a nice value in dynasty leagues.
Furthermore, Smith can easily be your second quarterback on your fantasy team each week in standard leagues or a waiver wire pickup option. I am not saying he can be an elite starting quarterback on your team, but two is for sure in his realm of abilities. The season will be interesting for Smith, and the offense will be something to watch for. He’s very valuable now, especially in Superflex and 2QB leagues.
