George Kittle 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Fantasy Football Outlook
The people’s tight end enters his seventh year in the league in 2023, and in a landscape where there are a couple of elite tight ends and the rest of them, what can we expect from George Kittle this season? Join us as we break down Kittle’s fantasy football outlook for the upcoming 2023 NFL season.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Unfortunately, Kittle is not the second or third option in San Francisco. He might not even be the fourth option. Additionally, with so many mouths to feed in the bay area, drafting Kittle may not give the payoff to fantasy managers it once did. Sure, he finished as the TE3 for the season, but his season didn’t look the way you expected with that finish.
First of all, he missed the first two games of the season due to injury. We know Kittle is a physical, blocking tight end who has no issues sacrificing his body. Unfortunately, this has been the case so much that he has never played an entire season during his time in the NFL. With that, if you are drafting him this year, you must keep in mind his propensity for injury.
Furthermore, for Kittle to pay off, he must score touchdowns. Plain and simple. In the weeks where he finished as the TE12 or better, there was only one week where he did not score a touchdown. That week, his yardage saved him, finishing with 83 yards. And look, he can score those touchdowns. Just how consistent was he? Kittle had the 6th-highest Consistency Score for all tight ends last year.
Brock Purdy clearly looks to Kittle, which gives him slightly more value than when he played with previous quarterbacks; in the five games Purdy started, Kittle averaged a 26.8% target share. Before Purdy? He averaged 18%.
Kittle will have some bust games, so if you invest in him at his draft capital — according to Sleeper ADP, he is currently the fourth tight end off the board in the fifth round — be prepared. However, it is in his range of outcomes to have some high-ceiling weeks. However, be sure to check out where he’s ranked in our 2023 fantasy football rankings. Using ADP along with our rankings, you can find a way to get some value on Kittle this year.
Dynasty Outlook
Kittle is on the wrong side of dynasty fantasy football hill as he turns 30 this year. Sure, he could still squeak out a few more years of value. However, if you roster him and are not in a win-now situation, you should try to cut bait and get something in return in a trade.
Kittle had a fantastic end of 2022 that is kind of deceptive. He earned 45% of his fantasy points in the final four weeks of the season! All things considered, if you have a chance to capitalize on recency bias to grab a young player and a pick, I would go for it!
