IDP Dynasty Rookie Profile – Kyle Hamilton

Kyle Hamilton is currently my top fantasy prospect at defensive back and the only reason he won’t be higher overall in my draft board is because of the significant depth at DB and the fact that most DBs need at least a season to develop before becoming elite defenders. But Hamilton has several skills that make him an intriguing prospect for the DB position.

First of all, he plays safety which is conducive to higher tackle numbers as he’ll play that “last line of defense” role in both and pass down situations. Not only will he have opportunities, but he demonstrates the patience and the vision to capitalize on those opportunities.

For example, in a matchup against Purdue, Hamilton was lined up 10 yards deep on a fourth and one situation. Purdue attempted a jet sweep, handing it off to a wide receiver in motion. Hamilton quickly read the play and sprinted 10 yards downfield to tackle the runner for a turnover on downs.

The patience to read the play, the vision to see what was coming, and the athleticism to make the play all combine to make him a special player. I imagine Hamilton will be a second or third-round player in IDP dynasty leagues, but if you already have a solid team and need some IDP depth, or want trade leverage, he could be taken late in the first round as well.
