The start of the season is here, and it’s about time! In the past week or so we have seen some notable IDP guys make headlines. Let’s get into what this news means for them in the short term as well as the long term.

Harold Landry (DL, LB)

Landry tore his ACL and will miss the 2022 season. This is really unfortunate as Landry is a talented young player who had a great season last year. He will not be easy to replace. Jeffrey Simmons, who had the best season of his career in 2021, might be someone to target if he’s available. Landry is only 26 and ACL injuries are not as bad as they once were so he should be able to bounce back next year and return to being a dominant player for fantasy.

Blake Martinez (LB)

Martinez was coming off of a torn ACL in 2021 after having a great 2020 season. It was a surprise release by the Giants, but if he can prove he is healthy and in shape he might find his way on another team fairly quickly. A tough blow to someone who was a top 5-6 linebacker just two years ago. He is a player to watch for and see where he lands. Although he likely won’t contribute much this season he could be worth a stash in deeper dynasty leagues.

Nick Cross (DB)

Indianapolis Colts named third-round Cross their starting strong safety. With the uncertainty of Shaquille Leonard’s health Cross could see a lot of action. Cross is an excellent athlete with great speed and the ability to play in the box. He could be a great stash.

Shaquille Leonard (LB)

Leonard missed training camp due to back surgery in the off-season and will now miss week one. Back injuries worry me and it makes me wonder if this will be a long-term issue that may cut his career short. This is not his first significant injury, he also had ankle surgery before the 2021 season. If you have him make sure you have a backup option.

Deion Jones (LB)

Jones had a solid season in 2021 but this year has not gone well for him. He missed time in the offseason with a shoulder injury. He was activated from the PUP list in time to play in the Falcons’ last preseason game but was placed on injured reserve shortly after the game. It is rumored that he is on the roster bubble. You will need to look for a replacement if you haven’t already.
