Fantasy Football Outlook

Javonte Williams is one of the most interesting players in the 2023 NFL season. At just 23 years old, he’s making one of the most highly anticipated returns back to action. Today, we’ll be breaking down the young running back’s potential fantasy football outlook for the upcoming 2023 NFL season.

Last season, Williams tore his ACL, LCL, and PCL in Week 4 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Since then, he has already made incredible strides this off-season rehabbing his injuries. New head coach Sean Payton is expecting him to be ready for Week 1 of this season coming up. Additionally, it was great news that Williams did not land on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Rightfully so, fantasy managers and NFL fans alike are of course skeptical of him playing Week 1. However, the news sets a positive note in our minds that he has a chance to play in the first four weeks of the season not being on the “PUP” list.  A massive injury he suffered has put many confusing thoughts into fantasy football managers’ minds on how he will perform this season.

I am certainly not a doctor. However, the general idea of Williams playing a huge role in the first few weeks of the season is scary due to the risk involved. The injury risk will be there for a long time, but the situation he is on the team is fantastic for fantasy purposes. Injury risks aside, he is going to be set up to reap the upcoming rewards in the Denver Broncos offense. Personally, I believe that Williams will be ready this season to take on a huge workload. I am not saying Week 1 but the time will certainly come for him this season.

Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023

In our 2023 Fantasy Football Rankings, Williams is 84th ranked overall and RB29. The new addition to the running backfield is Samaje Perine signed with the team this offseason along with Tony Jones Jr. Furthermore, the departure of veteran Melvin Gordon opens some work up as well. To say the least, the only running back that should influence the snaps out of the backfield is Perine.

Overall, the workload will be there for Perine with the Denver Broncos slowly revamping Williams into a full workload. Another addition to the Denver Broncos is the return of Sean Payton taking over as the head coach. Payton is the king of having his running backs see an extreme workload in games. Payton was quoted in the Bronco Wire; “I think it has to be part of our DNA, and we felt that way in New Orleans, as well…”

Running the ball is going to be in the game plan and the addition of Joe Lombardi as the offensive coordinator will certainly help the fact. Adding more on why Williams will be able to succeed is the offensive line has bolstered. They’re ranked fairly high on our 2023 offensive line power rankings as well. Additionally, Denver signed the former Mike McGlinchey and Ben Powers in the offseason. You also have Garret Boles coming back from injury who is healthy and ready to go. All things considered, that offensive line is a force to be reckoned with.

Dynasty Football Outlook

In dynasty fantasy football leagues, Williams still has plenty of upside. Fantasy managers should be able to see the talent, offensive line, and scheme in Denver and understand why it could be smart to buy in.
