Fantasy Football Outlook: Former Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was recently signed by the Raiders, leaving a glaring hole in their offense. As if their wide receiver room wasn’t weak enough, now JuJu Smith-Schuster will step in as the clear-cut WR1 on this offense. Mac Jones will be able to lean on Smith-Schuster heavily out of the slot and potentially feed him with targets.
Last year, Smith-Schuster played in 16 games and finished as the WR27 in PPR scoring. Obviously, moving from Patrick Mahomes to Jones is a massive downgrade, but Smith-Schuster really never got quite as much volume as many were hoping in Kansas City. That being said, he could easily produce as a high-end WR3 again, if not better. Unfortunately, he wasn’t very reliable last year, finishing as the 40th wide receiver in our Consistency Score metric.
In your dynasty leagues, it might be time to sell high on Smith-Schuster. If he couldn’t do it with Mahomes, I really don’t think there’s a ton of hope here. He’ll definitely get the targets in 2023, but long term I don’t like this fit for his value. I also wouldn’t be shocked at all if the Patriots target a young wide receiver in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.
