NFL DFS: Week 12 FanDuel Picks

0

Thanks for reading our weekly FanDuel DFS column. Our goal with this column is to highlight less obvious roster moves strictly on FanDuel. Everyone knows that a Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce stack is a popular move and that Derrick Henry is worth the premium. But here, we want to highlight uncommon players to help you differentiate your lineups. The FF Faceoff is an official Affiliate of FanDuel, so if you haven’t signed up, do so here. Now, let’s make some money with NFL DFS: Week 12 FanDuel Picks.

Stacks

Tom Brady ($8,200), Mike Evans ($7,500)
Correlate: Michael Pittman Jr. ($6,600)

This week’s slate leaves much to be desired for DFS players, with only one game set over 50 points. The matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Indianapolis Colts is currently set at 50.5 points, projected as the highest-scoring game of the week. While I typically try to avoid the likely favorite stack of the week, given the significant floor of Tom Brady and Mike Evans, I’m okay targeting this matchup.

The other benefit of stacking this game is there are several ways to construct a stack that can help you differentiate your lineup. Whether you stack Brady with Rob Gronkowski, Chris Godwin, or Tyler Johnson, and comeback with Pittman, Nyheim Hines, or Jonathan Taylor, you’re likely to be guaranteed a solid 50 points to build the rest of your lineup from.

The only other suggestion I’d make here is to avoid the Tampa Bay running back room, as the Colts are a top ten team against opposing running backs.

Kirk Cousins ($7,500), Justin Jefferson ($8,100)
Correlate: George Kittle ($6,700)

The next highest game on the slate comes in this matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers. While this game has the potential to be high-scoring, as these are two high-power offenses, it doesn’t have the flashy headline that often attracts lineup stacks.

Despite his continued success, Kirk Cousins continues to be an undervalued fantasy quarterback. This week he faces off against a 49ers defense that is 21st in terms of FanDuel points to opposing quarterbacks. The Vikings always seem to find themselves in a shootout and Sunday will likely continue that trend, meaning we should see plenty of connections between Cousins and Justin Jefferson. If you want to find more value in this stack, you can always target Adam Thielen.

Value Plays

Robby Anderson ($5,400)

This week the Carolina Panthers face off against the Miami Dolphins, providing an opportunity for the Robby Anderson breakout week we’ve been holding out for all season. Miami has strong corners, but often gives up points to slot receivers. Anderson lines up in the slot around 12 to 13 times a game, providing him opportunities to target weaknesses against the Miami secondary (Playerprofiler).

Pat Freiermuth ($5,300)

The rookie tight end was my dynasty stash play for my Steelers’ Season Preview and has quickly moved his way into a low-end TE1 with upside. This week he goes against a Cincinnati defense ranked 31st in FanDuel points allowed to opposing tight ends. With Ben Roethlisberger averaging just under seven air yards per target, there should be plenty of opportunities for Freiermuth to get several “dump-off” receptions and continue getting red zone targets.

Miles Sanders ($6,100)

One week after returning from injury, Miles Sanders faces the New York Giants, who give up an average of 105 rush yards and 50 receiving yards to opposing running backs. This is a bit of a risky play given the fact that Sanders is in a running by committee, but Sanders saw decent usage in his first game back from injury and could see increased usage in a Philadelphia offense that has become incredibly run-heavy over the past month. There is additional risk in Jalen Hurts stealing rushing touchdowns from his running backs, but Hurts is unlikely to score three rushing touchdowns on a regular basis.

Nyheim Hines ($5,200)

As referenced earlier, the Colts vs. Tampa Bay matchup is the highest on the slate, and while the Buccaneers have the toughest run defense in the league, they give up an average of seven receptions and just under 50 receiving yards per game. That’s an average of 8.5 FanDuel points to opposing running back pass-catchers, and Nyheim Hines tends to take on more of the pass-catching work for the Colts.

Brandon Aiyuk ($6,300)

I know this season has been tough for the second-year receiver, but Brandon Aiyuk is still a skilled player and has been gaining momentum in recent weeks, getting a season-high seven receptions in Week 11. As discussed in this week’s recap, some of this increased action may have simply been due to the game plan. However, as mentioned earlier, the 49ers and the Vikings are likely to get into a shootout, providing solid upside potential for Aiyuk.

New York Giants ($3,400)

Let’s be honest, there are only a few defenses I’m excited about this week, so I’m opting to punt this week with the New York Giants. The main draw here is that the Giants are going up against Jalen Hurts, who has struggled with passing accuracy despite his fantasy success. While there’s a chance the Eagles run all over the Giants, the Eagles’ offensive line still struggles enough to give the Giants some chances at some sacks and potentially some turnovers, which is all you need to get enough out of your defense.

Contrarian Moves

Tyrod Taylor ($7,400), Brandin Cooks ($6,500)
Correlate: Elijah Moore ($6,400)

With so many games coming in under 50 points this week, there are many opportunities to get different with your stacks. My favorite contrarian play this week comes from the matchup between the Houston Texans and the New York Jets. While the line for this game is only at 44.5 points, the range of players likely to contribute to that score is limited, increasing the likelihood of hitting with this stack.

While Brandin Cooks has struggled in recent weeks, he’s still the number one receiver in Houston and is coming off several tough matchups. This week he lines up against Jets secondary that is in the bottom half of the league against wide receivers.

On the other side, we have Elijah Moore, who is WR35 on the season, despite having a slow start and struggling with some injuries early in the season. He has quickly become a favorite target in the New York Jets offense and took an extra step forward with Joe Flacco under center in Week 11. Building this stack also saves salary, allowing you to pay up elsewhere.
