The 2022 NFL Draft is officially underway. Here at Faceoff Sports Network, we’re getting our team together to break it down for you as it moves along. We’ll give our thoughts on each pick as well as a grade on a scale of 1-10. Let’s dig right in.

Round One (Continued)

1.11 Chris Olave (Saints)

If you’ve listened to me recently, you’ll know Chris Olave is my favorite wide receiver in this rookie class. I believe he is the best route runner in this rookie class and he has the ability to take the top off of the defense. Olave led Ohio State in touchdowns for two consecutive years and is a prominent red zone threat because of that route running ability. I’m surprised about the move to trade up for Olave, but he is a great player and will fit in nicely with this lineup. Grade – 8.5

1.12 Jameson Williams (Lions)

Jameson Williams has a gearbox that is unrivaled in his class. Detroit fleeced the Vikings in this trade-up. This tells me the Lions future quarterback is in the 2023 class. Williams will not be rushed back to the field in what is sure to be the last of building seasons for the Lions. If you roster Amon-Ra St. Brown, you probably have a slight headache right now and rightfully so. Detroit paid a price that says Williams will be given every chance to succeed. Dynasty managers should still get a slight discount in the next few weeks due to the injury and recovery time still needed. Grade – 9

1.13 Jordan Davis (Eagles)

Jordan Davis a literal tank. He can move with his superior athletic skill. Questions will come in about his pass rush technique and his endurance. He has violent hands and uses his physical gifts well. His size and disruption ability will be sure to free up other spots along the defensive line. Grade – 9

1.14 Kyle Hamilton (Ravens)

A big position of need here for Baltimore as the Ravens’ defense gave up the most passing yards last season. Kyle Hamilton comes in at 6’4″, 220 pounds, and 33″ arms. Good luck throwing against him. An elite safety falling to the Ravens here just makes to much sense because this is just how the Ravens draft. Grade – 8

1.15 Kenyon Green (Texans)

I’ll admit the Texans do need everything, so I can’t say they didn’t fill a position of need. Green is very unpolished as a prospect. While he plays with a chip on his shoulder on the field, it often results in penalties during and after the play. This doesn’t change the value for anyone in the Houston backfield. Grade – 5

1.16 Jahan Dotson (Commanders)

Jahan Dotson has got great ball skills and plays bigger than his size. Being the top receiver in 2020 and 2021 for the Nittany Lions, Dotson finished last season with 91 receptions, 1,182 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns. A nice piece to add to go along with Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel. To take him this high is where I knocked him because I saw him more as a second-round pick than a first-rounder here. Grade – 4

1.17 Zion Johnson (Chargers)

When you have Justin Herbert on a rookie contract, you do your best to keep him protected. This might be a bit sooner than expected for Johnson, but he is a very solid piece for this offensive line. Grade – 8

1.18 Treylon Burks (Titans)

The AJ Brown clone slides into Brown’s role on his former team. Trade implications aside, this is a great pickup for the Titans. Burks is known for his ability to win jump balls and create separation once the ball is released. For fantasy football though, this is a less than stellar pick. The Titans still have a run-first offense, a mediocre quarterback, and Burks will need time to develop a more nuanced game. In terms of the big-name wide receivers in this class, Burks lands in the worst spot of the bunch. So far. Grade – 7.5

1.19 Trevor Penning (Dolphins)

After losing Terron Armstead in free agency to the Miami Dolphins, the New Orleans Saints took one of the best offensive tackles available in the draft and added Penning who was a three-year starting left tackle at Northern Iowa. Paired opposite Ryan Ramczyk, this offensive line is building back to be stout again. Grade – 8

1.20 Kenny Pickett (Steelers)

Pickett has started more games in the past five years and has not had to show his ability to play in the Pittsburgh weather past mid-November. This doesn’t yield well for them moving forward. The only consolation is that they did not have to move up a single pick to acquire him. Hug your Steelers friends. Grade – 3
