NFL-Franchise-Tag-2024-Full-List-of-Players

The 2024 NFL offseason is in full swing with several key events have been passing as of late. Most recently, the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis wrapped up. Additionally, Tuesday marked the official deadline for NFL teams to use the franchise tag on players.

Keep in mind, that three tender options come with the franchise tag. Non-exclusive Franchise Tag, Exclusive Franchise Tag, and Transition Tag.

What is the NFL Franchise Tag?

Non-exclusive Franchise Tag

“The most commonly used tag. When most refer to the “franchise tag,” they generally talk about the non-exclusive version. This is a one-year tender of the average of the top five salaries at the player’s position over the last five years, or 120 percent of his previous salary, whichever is greater. The tagged player can negotiate with other teams, but his current team has the right to match any offer or receive two first-round draft picks as compensation if he signs with another club.”

Exclusive Franchise Tag

“Unlike the non-exclusive version, the tagging team retains the sole right to negotiate with the player. The exclusivity raises the pay scale (current average salary versus averaging of the previous five years). This is a one-year tender offer of the average of the top five salaries at the player’s position for the current year, or 120 percent of his previous salary, whichever is greater. Few receive the exclusive tag. Generally, players for whom other teams would gladly give up two first-round picks receive this version of the tag — read: quarterbacks.”

Transition Tag

“The transition tag is a one-year tender offer for the average of the top 10 salaries at the position — as opposed to the top five for the franchise tag. It guarantees the original club the right of first refusal to match any offer the player might receive from another club. The tagging team is awarded no compensation if it chooses not to match a deal.”

2024 NFL Franchise Tag – Full List of Players

Josh Allen – Linebacker – Jacksonville Jaguars

Outside of the quarterback position, the linebacker position is the second-most expensive position to tag in the NFL. Recently, the Jaguars officially placed the franchise tag on talented linebacker, Josh Allen. Allen is coming off a franchise record 17.5 sacks in 2023 and will be heading into his 6th season with the team.

Brian Burns – Linebacker – Carolina Panthers

Star linebacker, Brian Burns recently signed the franchise tag with the Carolina Panthers. Burns is coming off an 8-sack season and is looking like he’ll be with the Panthers on a long-term deal sooner rather than later.

Kyle Dugger – Safety – New England Patriots

The New England Patriots used the transition tag on their talented safety, Kyle Dugger. Through four seasons with the Patriots, he has 9 total interceptions. This will earn him $13.8 million in 2024 and is just the 6th player over the past 15 years to receiver the transition tag.

Tee Higgins – Wide Receiver – Cincinnati Bengals

After some uncertainty around his future with the franchise, Tee Higgins has received the franchise tag for the Bengals. With a talented wide receiver like Ja’Marr Chase on the roster, it’s tough to pay another talented WR such as Higgins. This speaks volumes to what the organization thinks of Higgins and clearly they want him around. With a healthy Joe Burrow in 2024, this is the best wide receiver group in the league.

Jaylon Johnson – Defensive Back – Chicago Bears

Defensive back, Jaylon Johnson, recently signed d the non-exclusive franchise tag with the Chicago Bears. He’ll earn $19.8 million in 2024 and both parties are in the process of working a long-term deal. Heading into his fifth season with the organization, Johnson will likely be with the Bears for a long time. As for Justin Fields, we’ll see what happens in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

Justin Madubuike – Defensive Tackle – Baltimore Ravens

For the Baltimore Ravens, the non-exclusive franchise tag was placed on talented defensive tackle, Justin Madubuike. As expected, they should be working towards hammering out a long-term deal as well.

Michael Pittman Jr. – Wide Receiver – Indianapolis Colts

Another wide receiver who was given the franchise tag this year was Michael Pittman Jr. of the Indianapolis Colts. Heading into his fifth season with the franchise, it’s clear the Colts view Pittman as a legit NFL WR1. Coming off a career-high in receiving yards, he now has two 1,000-yard seasons to his name. Don’t be surprised if the Colts draft a rookie wide receiver in this talented rookie draft class.

L’Jarius Sneed – Cornerback – Kansas City Chiefs

It was reported back in February by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the Chiefs gave Sneed permission to seek a trade. Whether or not anything came of it, the star cornerback now remains with the Chiefs on the non-exclusive franchise tag. This will earn him $19.8 million in 2024. Whether or not he finds a long-term deal with the organization remains to be seen.

Antoine Winfield Jr. – Safety – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Coming off a career-year with 6 forced fumbles and 3 interceptions, Antoine Winfield Jr. signed the franchise tag with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Notably, Winfield has the highest-graded safety from the 2023 NFL season. Now, he’s set to make $17.1 million in 2024 and is expected to continue working towards a long-term deal with the organization.
