Thursday Night Football Player Prop Bets – Jets vs. Browns

Welcome back to Fanelli’s Fave Five Prop Bets.

Week 16 of the 2023 NFL regular season is in the books. Hopefully, bettors came away with more money in their pockets than they started the week with. However, the grind never stops. So, let’s not waste any time and get down to business.

Thursday night we have a matchup between the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns. While fans will have their eyes glued to the game, watching every play with the utmost attention, sports bettors only care about making money. However, which prop bets will lead to cash in their pockets? Here are my five favorite prop bets for Thursday’s game.

All props and odds are from DraftKings.

Trevor Siemian Over 0.5 Interceptions (-190)

New York had such high hopes entering the season. Instead of Aaron Rodgers leading them to the playoffs for the first time since 2010, the Jets ended up starting four different quarterbacks, including Siemian. Unfortunately, Zach Wilson won’t play Thursday night, missing his second consecutive game because of a concussion, giving Siemian another start under center. The veteran quarterback has struggled to protect the ball, throwing three interceptions over the past two weeks.

Furthermore, Siemian has had no regard for protecting the ball. The quarterback has only 88 pass attempts this year. Yet, he has a 3.4% interception rate, averaging a pick once per 29.3 pass attempts. Meanwhile, the Browns have had one of the top pass defenses in the NFL in 2023. They have 16 interceptions, the third-most in the league. More importantly, Cleveland has seven interceptions over the past three weeks, totaling at least two in every contest.

Joe Flacco Over 0.5 Interceptions (-190)

The Browns join the Jets as the only teams to start four different quarterbacks in 2023. Deshaun Watson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson are on injured reserve. Meanwhile, PJ Walker has gone from the backup, to the starter, off the roster, to the practice squad, and back to being the backup. Thankfully, Joe Flacco has come off the couch and given the team a boost heading into the playoffs. However, the veteran has struggled with protecting the ball.

Despite playing in only four games this season, Flacco has seven interceptions. By comparison, Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott have seven interceptions each despite playing in every game. Flacco has thrown at least one interception in every game this year, including two last week. Meanwhile, the Jets have 14 interceptions this season, the eighth-most in the NFL. Last week, they had two interceptions against Sam Howell, including one two plays into the game.

Breece Hall Under 48.5 Rushing Yards (-115)

Last week, Hall was outstanding against the Washington Commanders, totaling 32 touches for 191 offensive yards and two touchdowns. More importantly, the second-year player had 95 rushing yards, his highest total since Week 5. Unfortunately, Hall has been awful in the second half of the year. In the nine contests before last week’s matchup, he averaged 27.8 rushing yards per game, totaling more than 40 only once. Furthermore, last week was the first time Hall had more than 13 rushing attempts in a game since Week 9.

Meanwhile, the Browns have surrendered the 11th-fewest rushing yards to running backs this season, giving up 78.4 per game. The team had a rough patch during the middle of the year but has been outstanding lately. Over the past three weeks, Cleveland has held running backs to only 47 rushing yards per game, giving up more than 47 only once. Expect the Browns to do everything to contain Hall on the ground and make Trevor Siemian beat them in the air.

Kareem Hunt to Score an Anytime Touchdown (+195)

While the NFL has become a pass-first league, the running game still dominates the touchdown production. There are 12 players with eight or more rushing touchdowns this season, including two quarterbacks. By comparison, only nine players have eight or more receiving touchdowns. Despite not playing in the first two games this year, Hunt is one of the 12 players with eight or more rushing touchdowns, leading the Browns in that category with eight.

Cleveland’s offense has become more pass-happy with Joe Flacco under center. However, Hunt has still found a way to get into the end zone. The veteran running back has only 24 rushing attempts over the past three weeks. Yet, he has two rushing touchdowns, including one in Week 16. Meanwhile, the Jets have had no answers for opposing running backs lately. They have surrendered five rushing touchdowns to running backs over the past two weeks, including three to the Washington Commanders’ backfield last week, despite them missing Brian Robinson Jr.

Garrett Wilson Over 47.5 Receiving Yards (-120)

Unfortunately, the Aaron Rodgers to Garrett Wilson dream connection last four snaps this year. Instead, the star wide receiver has caught passes mostly from Zach Wilson. Yet, the former Ohio State star ranked 25th in the NFL in receiving yards, averaging 63.9 per game. Wilson has had at least 48 receiving yards in 73.3% of the games this year. Furthermore, the second-year star wide receiver has averaged 71 receiving yards per game over the past three weeks, totaling 76 or more twice.

More importantly, Wilson’s matchup this week isn’t as awful as it looks on paper. The Browns have held wide receivers to 121.5 receiving yards per game, the third-fewest in the NFL. However, they haven’t had the same luck with No. 1 wide receivers, giving up 55.5 receiving yards per game. Furthermore, Wilson had 102 receiving yards last season against Cleveland in only his second career contest. Wilson won’t have a massive performance but should total at least 50 receiving yards.
