A Potential Heisman Candidate for 2024

In this edition of Scouting the Nation, we take a look at a top pass rusher at Ohio State, a potential Heisman winner at quarterback, and an explosive weapon out West. Let’s get into some of the talented prospects that you should know for the season, as well as one potential Heisman Candidate for 2024.

Kenyatta Jackson Jr. DE Ohio State

Because he is behind two top-tier older rushers, Jackson Jr. doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. A well-built rusher, he wins with an impressive forklift move and explosiveness in his lower body. Notably, Jackson Jr. succeeded against both Penn State tackles that went top 100, and when given opportunities, he recorded pressures.

Of all the Ohio State rushers, Jackson Jr. might just have the most upside. It was hard not to notice #97 when watching his teammates or the tackles he went up against. With more snaps next season, Jackson Jr. will break out.

Kyron Drones QB Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech is loaded, and it starts at the helm with their dual-threat quarterback. Kyron Drones is an elite runner who will step into the NFL and be a top runner at the quarterback position. Most importantly, the physical tools as a passer are all there, too.

Furthermore, Drones has a big-time arm and can make any throw. His velocity is phenomenal and allows him to make tight-window throws. On the move, his passes are effortless with very good accuracy. Additionally, he avoids rushers at a high level and has a good feel for pressure.

The Hokies have a ton of NFL Draft prospects littered throughout their roster, and with how Drones developed over the course of the season, he could put up Heisman-worthy numbers next fall. Needless to say, the talent Drones possesses is special. He is our potential Heisman candidate out of this talented group of players.

Jalen Royals WR Utah State

Last season, Jalen Royals exploded for 1,000 yards and was unstoppable to cover on film. His ability to stop on a dime is excellent, and he has a great understanding of how to attack leverages. As a route runner, Royals makes sharp cuts and gets in and out of his breaks with ease.

Furthermore, Royals has a loose lower half that allows him to sink his hips and separate on comeback routes. He is a home run hitter who can get open at all three levels. Notably, he also has the versatility to play on the outside or as a slot.

Royals will be near the top of every statistical category next season and then run like the wind at the NFL Combine. All in all, Royals is the complete package, and will hear his name called early next April at the 2025 NFL Draft.
