Samaje Perine Signs With The Broncos – Fantasy Outlook
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Denver Broncos are signing veteran running back Samaje Perine to a two-year deal worth $7.5 million with another $1 million incentives. (Source: Mike Garafolo on Twitter)
Fantasy Football Outlook: Perine has never been an elite running back. Furthermore, he’s never been a significant fantasy player. However, the NFL veteran running had arguably the best year of his career in 2022. Perine averaged 7.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game, a career-high. Yet his production skyrocketed with Joe Mixon out of the lineup.
In the two games without the starting running back last season, Perine averaged 24 touches and 17.9 fantasy points per game, scoring 17 or more in both contests. Now he heads to Denver, where their backfield has more questions than answers.
Javonte Williams suffered a severe knee injury in Week 4, ending his 2022 season. Many believe he won’t be ready for the start of the 2023 season and could potentially miss the entire year. While the team will reportedly add a running back during the 2023 NFL Draft, Perine will serve as the primary backup behind Williams. Perine could provide fantasy players with consistent RB2 numbers if Williams misses significant time next season.
