Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em – Fantasy Football Week 11 (2023)
Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 11
Welcome to another edition of our weekly fantasy football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em. In this series, we’re here to help you set your lineups and put yourself in a position to win your fantasy football matchups each week. With nine weeks in the books, it’s time to take a look at Week 11 of the 2023 NFL and fantasy football season.
These players will be those “less-obvious” players that you’re on the fence about starting as your WR3 or Flex type of options. Nobody needs to tell you to start Patrick Mahomes or Christian McCaffrey.
Teams on Bye: Colts, Falcons, Patriots, and Saints
Week 11 Starts
Brock Purdy QB – San Francisco 49ers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After a few down weeks and the bye, it seems like Brock Purdy may have returned to form. He threw for 296 yards and three scores in a romp over Jacksonville this past Sunday. It also marked the third time this season that he has surpassed 250 passing yards and scored multiple touchdowns.
Next up, we’ll see the Buccaneers square off with Purdy and the 49ers. Over their last five games, the Buccaneers are allowing 319.2 passing yards and 2.2 passing touchdowns per game. That fits nicely into the usual outcome we’ve seen from Purdy before that 3-game losing streak. I’m going right back to the dependable quarterback this week. Don’t forget, the last time Purdy faced off against the Buccaneers was back in December of 2022, where Purdy threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns.
Devin Singletary RB – Houston Texans vs. Arizona Cardinals
At the start of 2023, Devin Singletary wasn’t getting a lot of work, averaging 6.8 carries and 32 rushing yards per game. In the last four games, he’s seen at least 10 carries in each game and produced a career-high 150 rushing yards on 30 carries this past Sunday against Cincinnati. With a dinged-up Dameon Pierce, Singletary is the Texans’ one-man wrecking crew out of the backfield.
The Texans get a treat for Week 11 with the Cardinals coming to town. The Cardinals have surrendered the third most rushing yards (1342), the fourth most rushing touchdowns (14), and the most rushing first downs (88) in 2023. If he’s the only running back getting touches for Houston, Singletary will feast again this week.
Rashee Rice WR – Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Going into the bye week, Rashee Rice had caught touchdown passes in three of his last five games. Additionally, he averages 13.7 yards per reception and a catch rate of 88.2% in his last four games. Furthermore, he leads all Kansas City pass catchers not named Travis Kelce in targets, receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. We may finally have a Chiefs wide receiver that we can rely on here.
Coming up is a beautiful battle for the passing game as the Chiefs host the Eagles. Philadelphia’s passing defense has been as effective as a bailing bucket on the Titanic. Of the 12 teams who have yet to reach their bye weeks, only three (Bears, Giants & Commanders) have allowed more receiving yards in 2023. They’ve also given up six passing scores in the last two games.
One of these days, Kansas City is going to have to focus on another receiver. With teams double and triple teaming Kelce, that day could come very soon for Rice. All things considered, Rice should be a great Flex play in Week 11 with all the players on bye weeks.
Tyler Conklin TE – New York Jets @ Buffalo Bills
Tyler Conklin has been a lifeline for Zach Wilson in the last two weeks, catching all 13 of his targets for 136 yards. He’s been a rather reliable streaming option with at least three receptions and 50 yards in five of his last eight games. Additionally, Conklin is also second among the Jets in targets, receptions, and receiving yards this season.
Buffalo has been an up-and-down team all season. Before Week 10, they had allowed four tight end touchdowns in three games. Keep in mind, in Conklin’s last trip to Buffalo, he hauled in five receptions.
With a number of fantasy-relevant tight ends on bye this week, you may need to look a little deeper for a fill-in. All things considered, Conklin is a TE you can stream with confidence in Week 11.
Week 11 Sits
Geno Smith QB – Seattle Seahawks @ Los Angeles Rams
Geno Smith had his best performance of the year this past week with 369 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. However, he did it against the Commanders who have the fifth-best D-PAC Score (5.67) for opposing quarterbacks and are allowing the most fantasy points per game (20.54) to the position.
Aside from giving Dak Prescott his first 300-yard and four-score passing game this season, the Rams have been a tough opponent for quarterbacks. In their other eight games, they’re allowing 221.6 passing yards and 0.6 passing touchdowns per game. Earlier this season, Smith already faced the Rams and struggled hard, producing just 112 passing yards and one score.
We’ve already seen Smith have issues in 2023, but last week’s breakout performance may steer some fantasy managers toward him as a streaming option. Don’t fall into the trap and leave Smith benched.
Chuba Hubbard RB – Carolina Panthers vs. Dallas Cowboys
Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen Chuba Hubbard emerge as the Panthers’ primary runner. He has out-touched Miles Sanders in four straight games with 15 or more carries in three of those contests. However, in the last three games, Hubbard has only managed 2.7 yards per carry and no touchdowns.
With a big challenge coming up with the Cowboys, Hubbard and the Panthers will have their hands full. Running backs facing the Cowboys’ defense have only notched four rushing scores and averaged 3.14 yards per carry since Week 3.
Hubbard is getting the touches to be a fantasy asset, but his production hasn’t been what we were hoping for. Unless you have no other decent option as running back, you should avoid Hubbard this week.
Tyler Boyd WR – Cincinnati Bengals @ Baltimore Ravens
Every season, we see a few moments from Tyler Boyd that remind us he has the talent to be a productive wide receiver in the NFL and for fantasy. The problem is, they usually come from days where he is forced into more snaps because either Tee Higgins or Ja’Marr Chase isn’t at 100$ health. We saw that last week from Boyd’s eight catches for 117 yards. Prior to that game, he saw just eight combined targets in two games.
Furthermore, going into Baltimore isn’t easy for any team in 2023. Along with the second toughest D-PAC Score of 6.94, the Ravens have also allowed the fewest receiving touchdowns (7) and the fewest yards per passing attempt (4.7) this year.
Boyd has played a lot of games against the Ravens in his career and I don’t think he likes those matchups. He has scored just once in his last 10 games against Baltimore. More recently, his last three games facing the Ravens have resulted in an average of 45 yards per game. With or without Higgins and Chase at the ready, Boyd should not be considered highly for fantasy this week.
Logan Thomas TE – Washington Commanders vs. New York Giants
I, for one, have been very reliant on Logan Thomas in the past few weeks. He has hauled in at least four balls in each of his last four games, providing a decent fantasy floor at tight end. No, his 8.7 yards per catch in that span isn’t great, but the usage certainly is there.
The second toughest D-PAC Score, based on our unique and free fantasy football metric, is currently held by the Giants. Opposing tight ends have managed just 26.8 yards per game against them. Thomas, himself, has averaged 25.7 receiving yards per game in his last three contests against the Giants and has surpassed 45 receiving yards just once in seven games. I’m looking elsewhere for a streaming option this week.
