For the avid dynasty football fan, there literally is no offseason. The offseason brings time to evaluate rosters, consider and make trades, dig in on the draft prep, and get ready for the rookie drafts happening in late spring and into summer. Many dynasty managers would argue that the offseason is even more fun than the regular season is. With so many players and roster decisions to consider, we will be breaking down some players with similar value and ADP. Check this one out in Dynasty Faceoff: Justin Jefferson vs Ja’Marr Chase.

Which side do you fall on in these popular player debates for 2022 and beyond? Let us know in the comments or on social media which side you are taking and why.

Ja’Marr Chase

Bryce Williams (@BryceNFL):

Ja’Marr has a better situation all around him. His quarterback five years from now is there now, something that can certainly not be said for Jefferson. There is no new offense to pick up or quarterback to transition to in the foreseeable future. Stability leads to consistency and Chase will be lapping Jefferson’s instability by the time 2023 comes. For that reason, plus many more, he gets the nod from me.

Aaron Schill (@aaron_schill):

If you find yourself on the clock staring at these two, you really can’t go wrong with either of these young stud wide receivers. Joe Burrow and this Bengals offense are for real. Despite the offensive line concerns, if you still have them. Between Burrow, Joe Mixon, Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd, there is just a ton of talent, and Chase has separated himself from them all very quickly. Chase put up 266 yards against the Chiefs, the most ever in one game from a rookie wide receiver. Another record he broke was Chad Johnson’s single-season record of 1,440 receiving yards, finishing the regular season with 81 catches for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Ultimately, I’d take Chase over Jefferson due to the future outlook and the offense he’s on. That’s the tiebreaker. There’s far less uncertainty around Burrow and the Bengals offense who have more than proven themselves, while Cousins’ future in Minnesota is very much up in the air. But again, you can’t go wrong with either and Jefferson has beyond proven himself.

Ryan Miner (@RyanMiner_FFB):

These two talents are both undeniably elite and from a dynasty perspective, the future is what helps me choose players. Here, I am going with Chase. I am not going to reiterate what Aaron said above, but we know for a fact that he is tied to Burrow for at least the next five years, whereas for Jefferson, we don’t know the future of his quarterback or who the coaching staff will be. These questions alone lead me to go to the safe and known route of Chase.

Tyler Posey (@coachtposey):

While both are uber-talented wide receivers and will be 1-2 in all dynasty rankings, I am going to take Chase over Jefferson. Chase came into his rookie season without playing a football game in a year, after sitting out what would have been his final year at LSU. He still turned in a record-setting rookie season, and now has the experience of playing a full season in the NFL. He is also tied to Joe Burrow who was coming off an ACL injury heading into training camp. With a full season and a healthy offseason under their belts, I look for this duo to take a bigger step forward next season.

Stephen Brownholtz (@sbrownholtz1):

It is crazy to think that both of these elite wide receivers played for the same college team! While both of these former LSU receivers are super talented, I believe that Chase will be better for dynasty purposes. Both players had about 1,400 (Jefferson 1,400, Chase 1,455) receiving yards. For this argument, stats should be thrown out the window and the situation for each player is key. Jefferson’s Vikings may get rid of Cousins at any point now, which would hurt Jefferson. Whereas Chase is playing with his former college quarterback; Burrow. Burrow is the future in Cincinnati for years to come. With a certainty at quarterback and a solid offense around him, Chase is in a way better offensive situation than Jefferson.

Justin Jefferson

Ryan Kirksey (@KirkseySports):

Two choices where it’s impossible to make a wrong choice. Chase and Jefferson are beer and liquor, pizza and wings, Kelly Kapowski and Jesse Spano. But for the purposes of this exercise, we know for a fact that Jefferson has two years of top-five production with Kirk Cousins as his quarterback. Chase is fantastic, of course, but put Jefferson with Burrow or another top-eight quarterback and who is he then? Bryce sees the impending quarterback musical chairs as a bad thing. I see a potential upgrade. Two straight years leading the NFL in air yards? I’ll take that.

Benjamin Dotlevson (@FFRabbitDad):

There’s little doubt that we will see a number of years of Burrow and Chase lighting up opposing defenses. However, Jefferson is the guy I like here. In his first year, he broke the record for NFL rookie receiving yards. In 2021, his 1,616 receiving yards were just 17 shy of breaking the Minnesota Vikings single-season receiving yards record – a record held by Randy Moss. When a player can be mentioned in the same sentence as one of the all-time great pass-catchers, I want to see what he’s going to do next year and every year after.
