Dynasty Fantasy Football Buys – February

tony-pollard-dynasty-buys

I’ll start this off with a slight brag and name a few guys I had as buys in last year’s articles. I wrote about Tee Higgins as a steal with everyone loving the rookie Chase and I absolutely loved Damien Harris as a league-winning RB2. Mike Williams too. I will also say that I try not to kill you with stats and analytics and try to just give you a feel for what I’m thinking. Leading into the 2022 season there are a lot of big-name free agents that are going to dramatically shift the outlook of NFL teams across the league. The first chip that has to fall is Aaron Rodgers and if he leaves Green Bay, I don’t see him going anywhere but Denver. That would immediately give a boost to the entire offense but especially to a few guys that I’m going to mention later in this article. Check them out and let me know what you think in Dynasty Fantasy Football Buys – February.

Dynasty Home

Tony Pollard

If you’ve watched any Cowboys games last year you could see that Tony Pollard was an immediate spark to the offense every time he touched the ball. Ezekiel Elliott made up for an absolutely horrendous 2019, but it still didn’t meet the standard we’re used to, and with him noticeably losing a step, it’s easy to see Dallas try to incorporate Pollard even more in 2022. Pollard was tied for 1st in the NFL among all running backs with 5.5 YPC and had over 1,000 yards of total offense as the team’s number two back. I would be willing to give up a late 1st for him and see him as an every-week RB2 by mid-season.

Christian Kirk

Going into this past season, Christian Kirk was seen as an after-thought, with Arizona bringing in AJ Green and drafting Rondale Moore. With that being said, it wasn’t until DeAndre Hopkins went down with an injury for him to really start showing out and coming up big for the offense on crucial downs. He finished the season with almost 13 yards per catch and was 18 yards away from his first 1,000-yard season. With Hopkins getting up there in age and Kirk proving he belongs, he should easily top the century mark next season and finish the season as an every-week WR2. I don’t know if I’d be willing to give up a 1st, but ask your league mate if he’d be willing to part with him for a 2nd rounder.

Gabriel Davis

This one is easy… Did you watch that playoff game? 8 receptions 201 yards and FOUR touchdowns! Gabriel Davis went nuclear and showed why the Bills took a shot on him in the 4th round with such raw talent. The Sanders experiment is over and Davis is the clear WR2 on one of the best offenses in the NFL with one of the best quarterbacks in the league. It’s hard to determine what you want to give up for him because we’re really basing this off of one game but IF I didn’t already have him on my team…I’d easily be willing to part with a second to get him on my team. If everything goes according to plan and he’s used as he should, he could be a league winner in 2022.

Travis Etienne Jr

As long as he comes back healthy, he should immediately step in as the team’s top offensive playmaker. He was absolutely electric at Clemson and is pairing back up with his college quarterback. Doug Pederson may not be the most exciting guy to bring in as head coach, but he’s a hell of a lot better than Urban Meyer, and he likes to use his running backs in a variety of different ways. Etienne’s 4.31 speed and the 215-pound frame is going to add a different element to this offense and I would love to see him being utilized as a poor man’s Deebo Samuel. You’re probably still going to have to pay a late 1st for him but if he comes back 100% it will be well worth it.

Jerry Jeudy

After a promising rookie season, Jerry Jeudy followed it up with a horrendous sophomore season. He failed to score one touchdown and was unable to record even 500 yards. I know this is a bad way to start a segment where I’m trying to sell you on a player but he is never going to be cheaper than he is right now. I mentioned in the opener how much Rodgers would benefit the entire Broncos offense and Jeudy would be the focal point. He has size, speed, and some of the best route running in the entire league. I would buy Jeudy while I could because if it becomes a reality that Rodgers is headed to Denver, it’s going to become almost impossible to get him at a reasonable price. I’m not giving up an early 1st, but a late 1st or an early 2nd should get the job done.

Devin Singletary

Going into the 2021 season the debate was between him and Zack Moss and the split was even until about Week 15, against the Panthers. In the final six weeks of the season, including playoffs, Singletary was their clear-cut RB1 and recorded nine total touchdowns. He’s the second Bill on this list and that has everything to do with Allen. As long as they trust him with the bulk of the carries, he will continue to produce as an every-week RB2. I’m not sure if I’d even give up an early 2nd for him just because of the uncertainty surrounding his status as RB1, but if the price is right he could turn out to be a reliable piece for any dynasty team. Many projections have the Bills taking a rookie running back, so you can use that as some leverage to grab Singletary for cheap, hoping for him to be the starting back on this offense next year.

Kadarius Toney

When Kadarius Toney was healthy last season he was easily the best receiver the Giants had and as long as Daniel Jones improves, we should see a little more consistency out of him. Against the Cowboys, Toney showed off why the Giants took him so high in the first round, recording 10 receptions for over 180 yards, and shredded a secondary that finished the year as one of the best. His ability after the catch is what makes him so special and as long as they continue to try and get the ball in his hands early and often, he is going to produce at a high level. If you can get him for a 2nd rounder, you smash the accept button. If your trade partner wants a 1st, then see if they’d be willing to throw in a proven vet with some upside…Gallup, Boyd, Hardman, etc.

Justin Fields

Justin Fields has got all the tangibles to become an elite NFL quarterback and honestly, I think he has the potential to have a Josh Alien-like jump in year two. At 6’3 and almost 230 pounds he’s incredibly athletic and pairs that with one of the biggest arms in the NFL. He showed off his speed and arm strength in several different games but he just has to keep it consistent and put it all together. I’m still only giving up a 2nd rounder in 1QB leagues but it should be worth it come season end.

Van Jefferson

After a disappointing year one and an injury to the Rams’ second-string wide receiver, Robert Woods, Van Jefferson stepped up in a big way and finished the season with over 800 yards on only 50 receptions. That 16 YPR average was good enough for 6th in the entire NFL and if pending free agent, Odell Beckham Jr., leaves LA then Jefferson could easily double his targets from this past season. I see nothing wrong with giving up an early 2nd but if you wait too long and Beckham does end up leaving, it might take a late first so monitor that situation carefully.

Albert Okwuegbunam

I’ll start this one off and say that his guy is my darling of the 2022 season. He’s 6’5, 260 lbs, and ran a 4.49 at the NFL Combine. I know he’s the backup to Noah Fant, but at one point Mark Andrews was the backup to Hayden Hurst. Albert O is a much better blocker than Fant and a much bigger body in the red zone. He finished the season with over 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns and as I said earlier in this article, if Rodgers ends up coming to Denver, then this entire offense gets a boost. The best part about this guy is he’s practically free. You may be able to find him on the waiver wire, but if not, you should be able to get him for the last pick in your rookie draft.
