Terry McLaurin 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Fantasy Football Outlook
Consistent is the one word that I can best describe Terry McLaurin. Out of the four seasons he has been in the league, he earned over 1,000 receiving yards. In his rookie year, he was 81 yards short. Through those years, the team started ten different quarterbacks. He battled day in and day out having inconsistent quarterback play.
Sam Howell is likely the starting quarterback for the Washington Commanders this season. Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke are off the team. In Week 18 of last season, the connection between him and Howell erupted. The stat line for him was 3-74-1 and included six targets. In training camp, all the hype has been about the connection between him and Howell working together to form a connection. The former Pro Bowler is no stranger to inconsistent quarterback games, but he has been durable missing three games in four years. To say once again, consistent.
2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
In our 2023 Fantasy Football PPR Rankings, he is number 48th overall, and in the wide receiver category, he is 24th overall. There is for sure one key to the offense that will help boost his production this upcoming season, Eric Bieniemy, offensive coordinator. Bieniemy is going to enforce his extremely passing-orientated offense in the scheme of the play calling. Can Bieniemy and Howell make McLaurin a better player this upcoming season? To answer that question, yes they certainly can.
The receiving yards have never been an issue for him other than the deep ball receiving yards due to quarterback play. If that problem can be fixed, I believe this will leap him into the top 15th overall in the rankings with ease. McLaurin is praising the bond Howell is forming with him by stating; “He’s gonna give guys a chance to make the play down the field, and he throws a really nice deep ball. So, he’s growing. I like how he’s doing and how he’s communicating with us as well.”
One can imagine the many “What ifs” that occur in the passes being overthrown to him through the years. This year is already proving to be different though with the second-year quarterback in Howell and Bieniemy adding intensity to the player’s performances in training camp. McLaurin is easily of course the number one receiving option on the team based on seeing 120 targets last season. The second wide receiver who saw the next most targets was Curtis Samuel at 92 targets.
Dynasty Outlook
In our Dynasty Rankings, McLaurin is 27th overall and he is only improving each season based on his consistent yards earned. He is going to make an impact on the team and this season is the time to prove his worth. With the current hype around second-year wide receiver Jahan Dotson, there might be a slight buy-low window on McLaurin in your dynasty leagues. All things considered, he still has a ton of value from a long-term dynasty perspective.
