2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Listen, the Houston Texans are a mess at the wide receiver position. There is no doubt about that. However, they do have a few rookies that have the potential to stand out in 2023 and in your lineups this season.

So far, the depth chart is Robert Woods, Nico Collins, and John Metchie. Unfortunately, they are not the most exciting group of wideouts in the NFL. However, the opportunity is plentiful in Houston, and Tank Dell is the guy that will take full advantage of this opportunity.

The 2023 NFL Draft

The Houston Texans selected wide receiver Tank Dell in round three, pick 69 in the 2023 NFL Draft. Additionally, they drafted their new franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud. It’s also been reported that he assisted the Texans and called to check in with Dell to see how the process was going. Texans GM selected Dell after the feedback that Stroud provided. Clearly, there is a bit of chemistry between the two rookies.

In Dell’s last two years combined at the University of Houston, he finished with 2,727 receiving yards and 29 receiving touchdowns. That is incredible, and now Tank is on the same team that Stroud threw to former Ohio State Buckeye’s Chris Olave and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. We know Stroud can only elevate Dell’s performance as a wideout in the NFL.

2022 Production

Last season for the Texans, Brandin Cooks finished as the lead receiver with 699 receiving yards. That was despite Davis Mills at the quarterback spot. If Cooks, who ran a 4.3, and Dell, who runs a 4.4, and with the better quarterback this season, there is no reason he won’t finish with nearly 700 or more yards this year. So yeah, I am not afraid to say it. I think Dell can absolutely lead all wide receivers for the Houston Texans in 2023.

Moving forward, all Dell has to do is beat out Woods. The veteran is 31 years old and on the downside of his career. Additionally, he was cut by Tennessee and finished with 527 receiving yards and only two touchdowns last season. Next, he’d need to beat out Collins, who has been injury-riddled and can not stay healthy. Also, he’ll have to compete with Metchie, who is returning from having cancer last season and will need to build chemistry with Stroud.

All in all, there is a fairly “easy” path to fantasy football production for Dell this year. Not to mention, producing as a productive NFL wide receiver as well. Considering all of the rough landing spots for rookies, this is a very solid one with plenty of future upside.

Dynasty Outlook

All in all, the path to fantasy football production is apparent in Houston. All Tank needs to do is be himself and seize the opportunity. He has excellent body control and incredible speed and can pivot and glide out of his routes like an All-Pro. If you are not drafting this wide receiver in your rookie drafts, you will be doing a disservice to yourself and your dynasty fantasy football teams.

As of now, Dell’s current ADP is 33. Players going in this range include Evan Hull and Puka Nacua. Personally, I would select Dell over those two in a heartbeat, possibly even higher than his current ADP. I would not want to miss out on a potential stud wide receiver, and Dell is that stud this year and will help many win a fantasy football championship.
