Tony Pollard 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
The Dallas Cowboys are always an exciting team to discuss when fantasy football rolls around the corner. Is this team going to make the playoff or will they fail in the divisional round? The question remains every single season. One thing this season to talk about is Tony Pollard taking over the reins as the lead running back with the departure of veteran Ezekiel Elliott.
Entering his fifth year, the upside is only rising and dynasty fantasy football managers are sitting on a pile of gold who held out shares of Pollard. Splitting time with Ezekiel Elliott, Pollard had 193 rushing attempts compared to Elliott’s 231 rushing attempts last season. However, Pollard showed his quick burst of speed on the field where he eclipsed over 1,000 yards last season with a workload lower than Elliott’s.
Brian Schottenheimer is now taking over as the offensive coordinator. However, this may not mean much because of head coach Mike McCarthy calling the plays this upcoming season. I know it is scary to think the Dallas Cowboys have the potential to be a great offense. There’s no denying, the sky is the limit for this offense.
The Dallas Cowboys offense franchise tagged Pollard and they want to use him as much as possible in the backfield with names like Ronald Jones and Malik Davis as the backups. CeeDee Lamb is a star in the making, Dak Prescott is ready to go, and the signing of Brandin Cooks will make room for Pollard to shine. I understand the injury that occurred last season against the San Francisco 49ers was not the best look. However, Pollard is getting healthier by the day. So, what stops Pollard from being the RB1 this season?
Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023
In our 2023 PPR Fantasy Football Rankings, Pollard is coming in as the number 5 running back this season. The running backs above him are:
- Christian McCaffery
- Austin Ekeler
- Saquon Barkley
- Bijan Robinson
All in all, the company that Pollard is in is elite and he has the potential to jump in the rankings rather quickly. Additionally, the speed and explosiveness on the field have shown. There are already videos on Twitter that have blown up showcasing Pollard’s elusiveness in Training Camp. Of course, there are videos of all sorts of different players that can be found.
That being said, Pollard is proving to everyone in the fantasy football community that he is healthy which should help the worrisome thoughts of drafting him this upcoming season. All things considered, fantasy football managers who are drafting him are ready for a running back one potential.
2023 Projections
Now the point that all of the community wants to talk about is touchdowns. We discussed the two running backs that are behind him and they aren’t a worry to vulture touchdowns on the goalline. Elliott was king of the goal line work last season who would pound the yardage and take away points from Pollard.
Furthermore, the receiving ability for him is also a huge advantage where he has the pass-catching ability. Last season he was targeted 55 times and was able to catch 39 of those targets including three receiving touchdowns. There are only 11 running backs above him who saw more receiving yards in the NFL last season. Goaline touches, a huge workload, and pass-catching ability are all the tools Pollard has.
Dynasty Football Outlook
Overall, Pollard has all the tools under his belt to be a top-end running back this season. If you held him this off-season in dynasty leagues then you are happy with what you have stashed for this season in order to reap the rewards. At this point, he’s either a hold or sell-high candidate based on his price tag. Check out where he stacks up in our latest dynasty fantasy football rankings.
