Undrafted Rookie Free Agents – 2022 Dynasty Football

0

When it comes to looking at undrafted rookies for your dynasty teams, my advice is pretty simple. Follow the money. Only a certain amount of undrafted free agents get guaranteed money each year. They have a chance to produce for your fantasy team. I would not target any of them in your rookie drafts unless it is a mid to late 4th-round as the hit rates for these guys are much lower than guys drafted in the NFL Draft in Rounds 1-3. These players are worth taxi squad spots if you have the space though. If you hit with one of these guys they could skyrocket your dynasty team.

Notables UDFA’s in Recent Memory

The following guys have all been undrafted free agents who were constant names on fantasy rosters from 2011 to 2020. Some of the notables from those years are:

2011 – Doug Baldwin and Chris Hogan

2012 – Cole Beasley and Case Keenum

2013 – CJ Anderson and Jack Doyle

2014 – Isaiah Crowell and Allen Hurns

2015 – Taylor Heinicke, Thomas Rawls, Raheem Mostert, and Tyrell Williams

2016 – Robby Anderson

2017 – Austin Ekeler, Kendrick Bourne, Matt Breida, Corey Clement, Cooper Rush, and Blake Jarwin

2018 – Phillip Lindsay, Jeff Wilson, and Mike Boone

2019 – Jakobi Meyers and Jalen Guyton

2020 – James Robinson, Tyler Huntley, Marquez Callaway, Salvon Ahmed, Jamycal Hasty, Tony Jones, JJ Taylor, Hunter Bryant, Juwan Johnson

Some players before 2010 were Kurt Warner, Warren Moon, Tony Romo, Priest Holmes, Arian Foster, Antonio Gates, Wes Welker, and Rod Smith.

All of these players signed as UDFA’s and had guaranteed money. A lot of the quarterbacks and tight ends were among the top-five paid at their position that offseason, while the running backs and wide receivers were among the top 10 paid of their position that offseason.

2022 UDFA’s

Quarterbacks – Carson Strong (PHI), EJ Perry (NO), D’Eriq King (NE), and Kaleb Eleby (SEA).

Running Backs – Abram Smith (NO), Kennedy Brooks (PHI), Jashaun Corbin (NYG), Tyler Goodson (GB), and Jerrion Ealy (KC).

Wide Receivers – Justyn Ross (KC), Kevin Austin (JAC), Isaiah Weston (CLE), Tre Turner (LV), and Rasheed Shaheed (NO).

Tight Ends – Jalen Wydermyer (BUF).

Top Targets

Abram Smith – Smith is someone you can target in the 4th-round of your rookie drafts. He very well might be the third-best running back on the Saints already on their roster and we do not know the details about Alvin Kamara’s suspension.

Kennedy Brooks – Look to target Brooks in the 5th-round or off the waiver wire as the Eagles do not have a running back like him that is a bruiser.

Jashaun Corbin – Corbin is more of a 5th-round or waiver wire pick up. The Giants have a lack of quality backs and with Saquan Barkley having trouble staying healthy he could move up the depth chart quickly.

Justyn Ross – Ross is a very solid 4th-round target. He was 1st-round talent before he got injured. Will he be fully cleared to play in games anytime soon? To be determined. That being said, the lack of depth beyond this year for the Chiefs makes him a very interesting target with very nice upside

Run to your waiver wire now and look for these guys!
