USFL 2022 – New Orleans Breakers

Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator: Larry Fedora and Noel Mazzone

Fedora will lead a fun offense to watch here with the Breakers. We should expect to see him spread the field, go up-tempo, and run an attacking style of offense. He has had some success as a head coach although it has been a few years since he had a winning season as one.   

Roster

Quarterbacks: Kyle Sloter and Zach Smith

Sloter should be the man here. He has played for Fedora before as a wide receiver and has a lot of NFL experience (consistently on practice squads) and has shown that he could ball out in some preseason NFL action. I think Sloter will put up some good numbers in what hopes to be a fun fast-paced offense. 

Running Backs: Larry Rose III, Jordan Ellis, and T.J. Logan

Rose and Ellis should be a 1a and 1b scenario here in what seems to be a common theme with this league and them splitting carries. Rose should probably get some early-down work, 3rd down work, and 2-minute drills while Ellis will be the goal line and other short-yardage opportunities. Logan was a late addition as he is solid himself and very speedy. He could fill in or even cut into some time of Rose if he gets injured or doesn’t perform well.  

Wide Receivers: Shawn Poindexter, Johnnie Dixon, Jonathan Adams, Taywan Taylor, and Chad Williams

The Breakers have a very solid receiver core which will fit right into their coaches offensive scheme. You have Poindexter and Adams who will compete for the big receiver role outside along with both being huge red zone targets. Then you have Taylor and Dixon competing for the top slot position in which both will be very capable. Lastly, Williams who is another capable wide receiver will be the 5th option in this good group of USFL receivers.  

This will be a close competition for the top target. I think Poindexter ends up coming out on top with his big body. Taylor will beat out Dixon barely for targets and I think he will be right up there with Poindexter for the most. Taylor has some very valuable real NFL game experience under his belt as well.  

Tight Ends: Sal Cannella

Cannella won’t put up big offensive numbers but will be an excellent blocker and red zone option for this team.
