USFL 2022 – Philadelphia Stars

Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator: Bart Andrus

According to sportsgamblingpodcast.com, “Andrus usually runs an offense with one running back, one tight end, and three wide receivers. Andrus most recently ran that set with the Generals of the TSL.”  Andrus seems to be taking this the most serious out of all of the coaches. The guy just really wants to win. He revealed his coaching staff and they got to work on scouting for the draft before all of the other teams. They also worked hard at drafting as much of his Spring League team as possible so that will be a leg up for the Stars.

Roster

Quarterbacks: Bryan Scott and Case Cookus

Bryan Scott will be the clear-cut starter here. Both of these guys were on Andrus’s TSL team. Scott absolutely dominated that league and will look to continue his connection with Andrus and put up solid numbers here in the USFL. 

Running Backs: Darnell Holland, Matthew Colburn, and Paul Terry

Another familiar face to Andrus is Darnell Holland. I think this is close to a 60/40 to 50/50 split leaning more in the favor of Holland. Neither back will be top tier here in this league. Holland was on Andrus’s TSL team and was his lead back leading both rushing and pass-catching for him at the back position.  

Wide Receivers: Devin Gray, Jordan Suell, Brennan Eagles, Diondre Overton, Maurice Alexander, and Chris Rowland

Andrus will constantly run three-receiver sets. I think the three receivers that get the most playing time will be Gray, Suell, and Eagles. I think Gray operates more in the slot while Suell and Eagles play outside. Suell could be a matchup nightmare for defenses as he stands at 6’6”.  I think he could put up some serious touchdown numbers on this offense.

Suell should be the number 1 option in this offense. He’s a matchup nightmare with that size and already has a connection with Scott and Andrus. 

Tight End: Bug Howard

Bug was a top-20 pass catcher in the AAF and is a converted wide receiver to tight end. He’ll be another reliable pass catcher on this team.
