Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 9
Week 8 is behind us and we’re already halfway through this 2022 NFL season. This week we see the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and San Fransisco 49ers all on their bye week. Whether you’re dealing with injuries, looking to stash some players, or need a bye-week replacement, here are some of the top fantasy football players to target on the waiver wire this week.
Quarterbacks
Justin Fields, Chicago Bears
Justin Fields has gotten better each week and is using his rushing ability to maximize his fantasy value. Fields went 17 of 23 for 151 yards and 60 yards rushing. He also threw for two touchdowns. Fields played one of the best defenses in the league in Dallas and had a very respectable fantasy line. Fields is becoming a decent streaming option with plenty of upside thanks to his rushing ability.
Andy Dalton, New Orleans Saints
Andy Dalton seems to be grabbing the starting job in New Orleans. Dalton completed 22 of 30 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns. Alvin Kamara had a massive day out of the backfield for the Saints as he caught both of Dalton’s touchdowns, bringing in three total touchdowns. Once he has Jarvis Landry and Michael Thomas on top of Chris Olave, Dalton becomes a streamable play.
PJ Walker, Carolina Panthers
PJ Walker might have won himself the starting job in Carolina. Losing a heartbreaker, Walker put his team in position to win the game against Atlanta. Walker threw for 317 yards and a hail Mary touchdown against Atlanta. While you probably need to keep an eye on the trade deadline, DJ Moore is his top target and has been rumored to be on the trade market.
Running Backs
Kenyan Drake, Baltimore Ravens
With Gus Edwards injured, and his status up in the air, Kenyan Drake lines up to potentially start next week. Drake rushed seven times for 62 yards and caught all four of his targets for five yards and a touchdown. Drake is a very strong RB2 or Flex play if Edwards is inactive next week.
Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City Chiefs
Last week, Isiah Pacheco got the starting nod for the Chiefs over Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He rushed eight times for 43 yards and saw zero targets. In a top-tier offense, Pacheco needs to be rostered in the event this role is full-time, and not just a one-week thing. Pacheco is worth a Flex play if he is seeing double-digit touches a week.
Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams
Kyren Williams is expected to play this weekend. With Darrell Henderson rushing four times for 16 yards, expect Williams to get his chance to be the lead back in this offense. This Rams’ rush attack is one of, if not the worst in the NFL, but Williams might get a chance at an increased role.
Wide Receivers
Rondale Moore, Arizona Cardinals
With DeAndre Hopkins back from his suspension and looking like his typical self, Rondale Moore is the WR2 in Arizona. Moore caught seven of eight targets for 92 yards and a touchdown. He added two rushes for 12 yards. He presents a very good Flex option in a pass-heavy offense. He’s seen eight or more targets in three of his last four games.
Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers
Romeo Doubs had his best game since week four on Sunday against Buffalo. He caught four of seven passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. With Christian Watson out, Doubs is seeing more volume and can break out. He is an intriguing Flex play this week.
Alec Pierce, Indianapolis Colts
Alec Pierce always finds his way on here. Pierce caught three of five passes for 65 yards on Sunday with new quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Pierce highlighted his day with a 47-yard catch and is trending up with Sam Ehlinger.
Joshua Palmer, Los Angeles Chargers
Joshua Palmer has a chance to be a top target for the Los Angeles Chargers this week. With Mike Williams out with an ankle injury and Keenan Allen playing his first game since Week 1 last week, Palmer has a chance to put up WR2 or Flex numbers this coming week against the Falcons. Allen played in roughly 30% of the offensive snaps in Week 7 before their bye last week and is probably going to ease himself back. Palmer might be a great player to spot-start this week if you’re in a pinch.
Tight Ends
Greg Dulcich, Denver Broncos
It’s officially Greg Dulcich season! The rookie tight end has put up double-digit PPR points in his three games with two different quarterbacks. On Sunday, he caught four of five passes for 87 yards. He is now operating as the starter in Denver.
Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars
Evan Engram has had an underwhelming season, but in fantasy, he’s been quietly putting up good numbers. Engram caught four of six passes for 55 yards and a touchdown on Sunday against Denver. With bye weeks, he’s someone you might have to start if you’re streaming tight ends off the waiver wire.
