Week 5 DraftKings Bargain Bin Plays
Week 5 is here and we’re over ⅓ through the fantasy season! The bonus of DFS is we get to keep playing, no matter what our record is. This week’s main slate is going to be missing two key players from the tight end position. Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews. Baltimore plays Cincinnati on Sunday Night and the Chiefs are home against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Many superstars won’t be available for us on the main slate and that’s okay, we have plenty to work with here!
Before I break down all of our picks, here are the most notable scoring rules for DraftKings contests: Full-point PPR, four-point passing TD’s, three-point bonuses for 100 rushing yards, 100 receiving yards, and 300 passing. Along with having a $50,000 budget to build a complete lineup.

Quarterbacks
Tom Brady ($6,000)
It’s been a rough start for Tom Brady as he finally broke 15 DK points to finish Week 4 with 29.4 points. Tampa Bay was down and down quickly and Brady tried his best to bring them back but fell short 41-31. This week the Buccaneers are home once again against the Atlanta Falcons and the right for first place in the NFC South. This should be a get-right game for the Buccaneers and we should see Brady put up a great game as he’s got Chris Godwin back and Mike Evans on a hot streak after his two-touchdown performance.
Trevor Lawrence ($5,600)
Going back to the well on Trevor Lawrence after last week’s underperformance. Week 4 it was raining in Philadelphia which changed both game plans for Lawrence and Jalen Hurts. This week should be a bounce back for Lawrence as they head back home to Jacksonville to take on the Houston Texans. The soft matchup should get him and the Jaguars offense back on track as Lawrence should see north of 30 pass attempts, which is what he’s used to throwing this season.
Geno Smith ($5,500)
I don’t know about you, but Geno Smith is making a name for himself. It’s amazing to see that he’s even out-producing the quarterback he replaced in Russell Wilson. Smith’s accuracy this season alone is one for the NFL record books. As noted by ESPN Stats & Info, his 77.3 completion percentage is the highest mark ever through four games among quarterbacks with at least 125 passing attempts. That’s just nuts and he needs to be taken seriously as we set our lineups this week. With back-to-back, 300-yard passing games can Smith do it again? After the Saints managed Kirk Cousins to 260 yards, I think so as this offense is just clicking.
Running Backs
Damien Harris ($5,600) / Rhamondre Stevenson ($5,500)
One of the biggest issues I have with this is the cost. The cost difference makes it hard to distinguish between Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson. New England showed Sunday afternoon as they were heavily ground and pound as Mac Jones was out of the game and Brian Hoyer got the start. Hoyer went down early with a concussion and fourth-round draft pick Bailey Zappe came in. The game plan didn’t change as it was short passes and the running backs getting the ball. Harris finished with 18/86/1, while Stevenson finished with 14/56 along with four catches (five targets) for another 23 yards but no touchdowns.
Jeff Wilson ($5,500)
With getting double-digit carries and 18 in two of his last three (got injured against the Bears) we’re going to use Jeff Wilson this week. The opportunity shares Wilson gets is enough for me to take him at this cost. The Carolina Panthers have been okay against the running back position but we’re going here for the volume. He got his first touchdown this week, can we make it two in a row?
Breece Hall ($5,400)
The breakout is here and DraftKings is keeping Breece Hall at the same cost as last week. SMASH THIS! Hall had a season-high in snaps (66%), rush attempts (65%), and route participation (61%). Not only this but Hall saw 17 carries compared to Michael Carter’s nine. Another good thing to look at also is his six targets from Zach Wilson. Sure he only caught two of them, but seeing the quarterback change from Joe Flacco to Wilson should continue to benefit and we are on the brink of a RB1 season at an RB3 cost.
Raheem Mostert ($5,000)
Now this is what I call a bargain! Each week Raheem Mostert has been getting more snaps and in week 4 he got 73% compared to Chase Edmonds 28%. Most will remember it was Edmonds who got the touchdown but it was Mostert who out-touched him 17-7. With Tua Tagovailoa being out for this game, I could see it being more of a run-based approach this week with Teddy Bridgewater under center.
Wide Receivers
Tyler Lockett ($5,600)
When there’s a will there’s a way when it comes to Tyler Lockett. Lockett finished with six catches (eight targets) for 91 yards and no touchdowns. What the stat sheet doesn’t show is the deep touchdown pass that was overthrown to Lockett by a couple steps which would have made his fantasy day better than the 14.1 points he put up. Lockett continues this week as a sneaky play as he led the team in snaps (52) and routes run (29 with D.K. Metcalf). This passing attack is something we have to start taking seriously.
Robert Woods ($5,200)
With Treylon Burks looking to be out for a while, it gives ample opportunities for other wide receivers to pop. Why not Robert Woods? Sure this Titans offense runs through Derrick Henry, but someone else who has fantasy relevance needs to catch the ball, right? Right? This is a bottom-of-the-barrel type play that I like. Going against a Washington defense that is at the bottom against the wide receiver position gives me enough confidence to have Woods in at least one lineup.
Michael Gallup ($5,000)
When setting lineups, always look at the cost and question why a player’s salary drops the following week after a meh kind of week. Coming back from a torn ACL, Michael Gallup looked healthy and did well in limited play with two receptions (three targets) for 24 yards and a touchdown. We could be limited by Cooper Rush’s deep ball ability, but I think Rush can do just that and get the ball to his receiver where he thrives. Once Dak Prescott comes back, I can see this price going up quite a bit. Enjoy the low cost while you can.
Tight Ends
Kyle Pitts ($4,400)
I don’t know how to say this nicely, but Kyle Pitts isn’t the answer. We all may have been too high on him overall as a community but averaging 3.76 points in three of his four games is unacceptable. This week I’m hoping Pitts gets back on track against the Buccaneers and their 29th-ranked defense against the tight end position. After giving up a 9/92/1 Sunday night to Travis Kelce, who says luck can’t strike twice. I’m willing to put Pitts in lineups this week as his cost is what’s bringing me into him.
David Njoku ($3,800)
I love when values hold value like David Njoku does once again this week. After being second in targets behind Donovan Peoples-Jones, Njoku holds value at tight end, especially when we need it unless you go top heavy. Go back to Njoku this week and hopefully he stays above the six target mark as that seems to be his sweet spot to give us a TE1 week.
Logan Thomas ($3,200)
When first putting this week’s bargain bins together, I had Jahan Dotson as a play. He’s out at least a week with a hamstring injury which leads me to Logan Thomas. Thomas hasn’t been one of the best tight ends, but at cost you can find worse for the same cost, if not less. Tennessee has allowed four touchdowns to tight ends already this season, and I’m hoping here that Thomas finds the endzone.
