Fantasy Football – Start Of The Week

Jordan Mason @ MIN

The rule for my start of the week is to go beyond the obvious and pick a running back outside the top 24 FantasyPros consensus rankings. Going up against the Minnesota Vikings, Jordan Mason is my start of the week.

Assuming Christian McCaffrey doesn’t play, Jordan Mason is my start of the week. There’s been a lot of talk about Elijah Mitchell, but so far, Mason has looked like the better back. On top of Mitchell’s inefficiencies, Kyle Shanahan doesn’t even know if he’ll be 100%

Even when missing some of their best players, the 49ers are seven-point favorites with an implied team total of 25.5 points. If the 49ers can get up early and run the ball, Mason could have a massive game.

In a small sample size, Mason has looked great with his workload. Mason scored 12.9 and 8.7 points in the past two games with only 15 carries. Mason averaged 6.9 YPC on ten attempts in week five and 5.4 YPC on five carries in week six.

In a disgusting running-back landscape, Mason absolutely deserves to be in the top 24. It seems highly unlikely the 49ers will rush McCaffrey back, considering they’re 5-1 and the Vikings are 2-4. Mason is in a great offense and has a fantastic game script, which makes him my start of the week.
