2022 FIFA World Cup

We have seen teams from South America really flex their muscles over the last two match days of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. I expect nothing different in the last day of the group stage when Uruguay takes on Ghana on Friday, December 2nd.

Uruguay vs Ghana

Through two games this Ghana side has been fun to watch finding ways to keep things close against Portugal and winning a thriller against South Korea. There has been one negative constant with this team though. Through their first two games of the World Cup, Ghana has conceded five goals and allowed a whopping 3.80 xG. They’ve also allowed a combined 33 shots through these first two games. While Ghana currently holds the cards having three points in the group this team is not looking capable of being able to shut up shop to take a more defensive-minded approach.

When you look at the likes of what each team had to go through I think this plays into the hands of Uruguay. Ghana’s road to the FIFA World Cup went through South Africa, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe ranked 67th, 138, And 125th respectively. As for Uruguay, their greatest strength is their defense which only allowed 22 goals in 18 qualification games. They also played in an extremely tough group stage competing against the likes of heavyweights Brazil and Argentina. Both of them are in the top three in the FIFA rankings and also against the likes of Peru, Columbia, and Chile with each of them being inside the FIFA top 30.

When you look at what both sides have done to get here, it’s important to remember that you can’t control who is on your schedule. I believe this will massively benefit Uruguay being a far more battle-tested team.

Why You Should Bet On Uruguay

This Uruguay side is not only the better side they are due for a positive result at the right time. They were somewhat unlucky against Portugal while losing 2-0 they went head to head with Portugal on xG  1.33 to 1.27 with 0.79 of this coming from one shot on a questionable penalty call against Uruguay late, giving Portugal the 2-0 victory.

This matchup versus Ghana looks like a game where having a game-changer like Darwin Nunez could prove vital against a Ghana side that just isn’t built to approach a game defensively.

The most enticing thing about this game is the betting price on Uruguay. While it’s somewhat understandable being Uruguay isn’t as gifted offensively as some teams this is a must-win game for a strong battle-tested team that has a history of producing good results in this tournament. Furthermore, the Uruguay Moneyline alone is enticing at -135 I think there are two great opportunities to save on juice here.

With the significance of this game, I expect chances to be limited and Uruguay could very well even keep a clean sheet. Combining the Uruguay Moneyline with Under 4.5 goals in the game at +100 is an excellent set of odds. For those that don’t want to worry about the total or aren’t able to parlay this option Uruguay to win on the Asian handicap spread of -0.75 at -105 is also an excellent way to go.
