2022 Scott Fish Bowl – Draft Strategy
All over the Twitter universe, many members of the fantasy football community are getting their Scott Fish Bowl invites. Scott Fish runs a premier pro-am fantasy football tournament with fans, analysts, celebrities, and ex-football players. The money raised in this tournament goes to Toys for Tots.
The fun thing about this draft is the multiple divisions. I signed up for the Detroit one since I am about 20 minutes from downtown. You get to choose your slot if it’s available. I was looking at the optimal “winning” area from the 2021 Bowl and found out somewhere between 4-6 is the best. Also, with this draft, there is a thing called third-round reversal. What is it? Well, it’s simple. If you have the 12th overall pick, you now have the first pick of the third round, and if you have the first overall pick, you now have the 3.12.
I choose to go at the 5th pick, because it was in that sweet spot, along with the third-round reversal, I am going from the 3.5 to the 3.8, so not much value was lost.
The team at Faceoff Sports Network got together to do a Scott Fish Bowl Mock Draft. We all took selected draft slots and ran a mock draft, which you can also be found on YouTube. To tell you the truth, I like how my team turned out. Here are my picks and reasonings that I hope help you!

1.05 Patrick Mahomes
With quarterback points being so important, I wanted to make sure to lock up an elite piece here. Many may not see Patrick Mahomes quite as high anymore after finishing as the QB6 last season and then losing Tyreek Hill. I see Mahomes passing the ball all around this offense, especially in the AFC West which should have a lot of shootouts. Shootouts lead to lots of points, and Mahomes could be pushing for the QB1 in this format going forward.
2.08 Aaron Rodgers
Mr. Efficiency himself, Aaron Rodgers. Yes, he may have lost his top receiver in Davante Adams, he has a whole new wide receiver core around him out of Allen Lazard, but he knows what he’s doing. Happy to lock up my QB2 with Rodgers even with the lack of receivers.
3.08 Aaron Jones
This is nuts! I didn’t think I could lock up Jones here and stack him with Rodgers. Not only does Aaron Jones have THE RB1 upside, but he is the WR1 in my mind for Rodgers. He has the chance not only to surpass 80 targets but even creep up on 100 targets. Love this stack right here.
4.05 Darren Waller
Love getting Darren Waller here as the 5th tight end off the board in a TE-Premium scoring league. Everyone is all over Adams and thinking he will knock Waller down. I don’t see that quite happening and believe Waller will still have a very solid role. Waller should still see 120-130 targets and should easily rebound into a top-3 tight end once again.
5.08 T.J. Hockenson
This is just becoming highway robbery. Letting TJ Hockenson fall this far is just nuts! Yes, I still have no wide receivers yet, but getting a tight end who should be more efficient with defenses not focusing on him should allow him to be more efficient. Additionally, he was a top-5 tight end before his injury, and getting him here is just a gift.
6.05 Travis Etienne
The hype is real with Travis Etienne and I’m all over it. I think this being a Superflex league causes Etienne to fall. He’s been getting a lot of receptions in practice, and with this being a PPR league, I am happy to land him here as my RB2.
7.08 Courtland Sutton
Waiting on wide receivers is hard to do, especially how fast they have been coming off the board here. Taking my WR1 here in Sutton won’t happen every time, but landing him here around the end of the 7th just seems like a solid value. He has a top-10 upside here.
8.05 Rashod Bateman
No Marquise Brown, no Sammy Watkins, no problem here for Rashod Bateman. 146 targets are up for grabs in this offense. I know Mark Andrews should get an uptick here but Bateman should be able to get north of 100 targets. He has WR2 upside and I see him not only having that but also pushing WR1 weeks.
9.08 Chase Edmonds
Running back depth was starting to dry up here so I wanted to jump in the middle of the run before it was too late and I’m reaching a bit for Chase Edmonds. He may be the starter, he may be a committee back. Adding a depth piece from an offense that looks like it will move the ball as my RB3. I feel like it was a nice pick here.
10.05 Brandon Aiyuk
Being a league where you must start three wide receivers, I wanted to lock up a receiver who I think could take that leap, especially for those who are concerned with Deebo Samuel. Aiyuk has many question marks around him, including who is going to quarterback this offense, and can he take that next step and not be in the doghouse.
In other words, if Aiyuk can take off as he did from week 10 on, then getting him here in the 10th round is a bargain. From that time, if you extrapolate his stats over 17-games, he was on pace for 73 receptions for 1,164 yards and seven touchdowns. If everything goes right, Aiyuk has top-20 upside.
The Rest
11.8 Tyler Lockett
12.5 Dameon Pierce
13.8 Tyler Allgeier
14.5 DJ Chark
15.8 Jamaal Williams
16.5 Jakobi Myers
17.8 Mecole Hardman
18.5 Darrel Williams
19.8 Chris Evans
20.5 Nico Collins
21.8 Abram Smith
22.5 Harrison Butker
23.8 Phillip Lindsay
Furthermore, the remaining picks here are just bench pieces for depth. I wanted to get upside players who are an injury away or a piece that has upside. Was surprised to see Harrison Butker fall so far. Usually, I like to pair my starting quarterback with the team’s kicker because if the team doesn’t score a touchdown, I can hope for at least three points.
