Davante Adams Traded to Las Vegas Raiders: Fantasy Reaction

The new league year starts, and boy did it not take long to get the fantasy community going. Thursday evening, the biggest trade went down that no one saw coming!

Davante Adams has officially been traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders for a 2022 1st-round (22 overall) and a 2022 2nd-round (53 overall) in April’s 2022 NFL Draft.

On top of that, Adams signed a five-year, $141.25 million dollar contract with $67.5 fully guaranteed with the Raiders, becoming the highest-paid receiver in NFL history, averaging $28.25 million per year.

The Green Bay Packers offered Adams more money, but it has been a dream for him to play in the silver and black.

Adams’ Fantasy Value Moving Forward

What Adams had with Rodgers is similar to Adams being reunited with his former college quarterback, Derek Carr. In the two years with Carr at Fresno State, he led the FBS with 233 receptions, 3,031 yards, and 38 touchdowns in his two-year career before being drafted 53rd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.

The fantasy implications to me stay the same. In the dynasty community, I still view Adams as a top-five wide receiver, even at the age of 29. He has shown no sign of regression and being with his best wide receiver room in his career outside of 2014 and 2016 with Jordy Nelson.

Pairing Adams with star tight end Darren Waller and PPR slot receiver Hunter Renfrow make this receiving core is something to look forward to drafting. You can’t guard everyone, and I think this actually makes them all must-draft players. Adams is still a WR1, Waller is a sure-fire top-three tight end and Renfrow is a solid WR3 with upside.

Derek Carr

This is also a bonus for Carr. Going into his Week 8 bye last season, he was a fantasy QB1. With his usual ups and downs, he finished around QB13 and I think losing Waller for the majority of the second half of the season with a knee injury. If this core can stay together all season long, Carr should be a quarterback you take as a QB2, because that’s where he has been most of his career. Could he be a QB1 this season? Without a doubt! If you’re one of those fantasy players who like to wait for quarterbacks, Carr should be your top target.

The Packers

As far as Aaron Rodgers and the Packers go, Rodgers is still going to be viewed as an elite fantasy football option, regardless of who they bring in. Will they target someone like JuJu Smith-Schuster? Or will the Packers finally draft a wide receiver high in the NFL Draft? Either way, they will absolutely have to bring someone in, but Rodgers is going to sling it for over 4,000 yards regardless of who is catching the ball.

This team, hell the AFC West is looking like a dog fight because it’s anyone’s division now and I am excited to see how it goes!
