7 Players to Buy in Dynasty Fantasy Football

7-Players-to-Buy-in-Dynasty-Fantasy-Football

While the NFL season is coming to a close, there is always time to start looking toward the future. Specifically, in your dynasty fantasy football leagues. The minute after the regular season ends, dynasty fantasy football season begins. With that, here is my early list of 7 players you should buy this off-season in your dynasty fantasy football leagues.

7 Players to Buy in Dynasty Fantasy Football

Below, the players listed fall into one of three categories. (1) They are talented, and I am willing to pay what the price is. (2) The player underperformed but can see a path for their value to rise. (3) I am rummaging through the bargain bin.

In addition to the players I am targeting to buy, I provided actual trades from FantasyCalc. No, these prices are not final and won’t be all offseason. However, they are a snapshot of their current market value and completed trades involving said players. Each league may vary, but this is a starting point for you to compare and assess the values of players in your Superflex dynasty fantasy football leagues.

Brandon Aiyuk WR San Francisco 49ers

As a proud Brandon Aiyuk fan, seeing him excel this year made me exponentially proud. He finished 7th in receiving yards with seemingly the infinity stones of superstars around him in the San Fransico offense. Aiyuk tallied 1,342 receiving yards in 2024 and had fewer targets than Drake London, Jakobi Myers, and George Pickens.

Aiyuk is one of the best route runners in the NFL and is explosive after the catch. If I didn’t already have him on so many teams, I would be looking to buy him everywhere. His price will be steep, but he is still an underrated fantasy asset.

The 49ers will give him a financially generous extension this offseason, and it looks like Purdy is the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. Deebo Samuel and George Kittle are beginning to age and rely on big plays throughout the season, while Christian McCaffrey will be elite until the wheels fall off.

Aiyuk is a consistent option that still has untapped potential. After last season, it might be your last chance to buy into the Aiyuk hype train before his price is astronomical.

Jonathan Taylor RB Indianapolis Colts

Jonathan Taylor flew under the radar in 2023. Even though he didn’t return to his usual workload until late October and only played nine weeks last season. Because of that, he finished as the RB35 in total half-ppr scoring. More importantly, he finished as the RB14 in points per game, averaging 13.4 points per game.

All in all, I was very impressed with Shane Steichen and his offensive philosophy in 2023. Their offense was fast-paced and helped Zack Moss resurge his career. Enter a healthy Taylor and Anthony Richardson. Overall, I am optimistic about the Colts’ offense in 2024 and can see a path where Taylor continues his impressive young career.

In addition to that, Taylor was one of the few free agents or franchise-tagged running backs to sign a contract extension last offseason. All things considered, he is one of the few running backs with some sense of security in their role.

Aside from Taylor’s optimism, security, and elite asset, his price is nearly half compared to two offseasons ago. I remember during the 2022 off-season when Taylor’s trade market was multiple first-round picks in dynasty leagues.

With the running back economy over-correcting, now is the time to take advantage of that discount and reinvest some of your assets to get one of the best young running backs in the league.

Bryce Young QB Carolina Panthers

Cue the “Oh brother, this guy stinks” clip from Spongebob. Bryce Young had an underwhelming rookie year. Nevertheless, I still hope he can be a respectable starter in the NFL. More importantly, in dynasty fantasy football leagues.

While some of his issues are his habits in the pocket and missed throws, a lot of his disappointment was from his situational surroundings in Carolina. The Panthers’ organization was all over the place last season, and massive staff turnover has ensued because of the struggles last season.

Furthermore, the restructuring of the front office and the newly hired head coach, Dave Canales, gives me hope that Young will turn it around in year two. Most recently, he is known for helping Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield resurge their careers. Young did show flashes last season as a remembrance of him dominating the SEC at Alabama during his collegiate career.

I think Young is undersized but talented enough to be a quarterback in the NFL. However, I will be more confident in this call if the Panthers add a premier free-agent wide receiver and bolster the offensive line through the draft to surround Young with the appropriate weapons to maximize his skill set.

This call could be setting assets on fire or a sneaky move to get a competent, young quarterback on your roster that you can either keep for depth or flip later on. Acquiring a quarterback in Superflex leagues is challenging, especially for young ones. All things considered, this offseason is a great opportunity to exploit Young’s deflated price.

Kendre Miller RB New Orleans Saints

Kendre Miller was a highly touted prospect out of TCU, and he was someone that I was excited to see strap up for the New Orleans Saints. Unfortunately, injuries riddled his rookie season, and he only got a few chances to showcase his skillset.

You might wonder, “Why should I buy this player if they didn’t produce it last year?” Miller’s Week 18 performance gives me a lot of optimism that he will be more involved next season. Notably, he had 13 carries for 73 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Furthermore, Miller displayed that he is talented enough to carve out a role in the Saints offense. Alvin Kamara has always been influential in the receiving game. However, he has declined in yards per carry again in 2023. I hope that in 2024 they start to feature Miller in the running game while showcasing Kamara in the receiving game like normal.

If you aren’t in love with the options available, this is a bet on talent. Even though we have a small sample size, I believe Miller passed the eye test. At this moment in time, this rookie class needs more depth in the running back position. Personally, I would be perfectly fine with flipping a mid-second to take a shot at Miller.

David Montgomery RB Detroit Lions

While the spotlight is on rookie Jahmyr Gibbs, I am considering the cheaper option in the Detroit backfield. Trading for Gibbs will likely cost you an arm and a leg, but David Montgomery will be much more affordable.

Gibbs’s upside is far superior to Montgomery’s, and I can see the rushing attempts flipping in 2024 compared to this year. There is a world where their rushing share stays the same, too. Either way, this backfield is valuable for fantasy football. Gibbs (14.8 ppg) and Montgomery (14.6 ppg) averaged above 14.5 half-PPR points per game as weekly contributors to your fantasy lineups.

Nevertheless, Montgomery will still get roughly 190 carries, guaranteed goalline opportunities, and a small percentage of receiving work. Overall, he is the perfect running back to trade for if your roster strengths are wide receivers and quarterbacks. Montgomery will be an easy plug-and-play running back that will cost you half as much as Gibbs and give you 80% of Gibbs’ production.

Noah Fant TE Seattle Seahawks

Buying Noah Fant is all about betting on his athletic ability and hoping that the change in offensive philosophy in Seattle gives Fant opportunities. Fant is only 26 years old, and people forget that he already had two seasons where he finished as a top-12 tight end in half-PPR scoring.

Needless to say, the talent has always been there. However, Fant needs more volume to finish as a top-12 tight end again. The goal is to see Fant emulate what David Njoku did this season, breaking back on the scene in a much more crowded tight-end landscape than in the previous season.

Furthermore, the best roster to have Fant on is if you already have a top-tier player. Such as Sam LaPorta, Mark Andrews, Travis Kelce, etc. If he hits, you have another fill-in option or a trade piece for the future. Backloading your roster with tight ends could be better, but taking a swing on a player with upside is encouraged in dynasty football leagues.

If you miss Fant faceplants, then the capital you spent to get him had a low probability of hitting anyway. Most importantly, his price is dirt cheap right now. Sending a late-third or early-fourth-round rookie pick is more than worth the dart throw.

Raheem Mostert RB Miami Dolphins

This is Deja Vu. Raheem Mostert finished as the running back two overall in the 2023 season and torched those that faded him in the offseason. Mostert’s outlook is the same as last year, and he is still a cheap asset to acquire. As we all know, dynasty managers are age-ists and will always side with the younger players.

I expect Achane to have a more significant role in the offense next year because he looked just as electric, if not more electric, than Mostert. The catch is the Dolphins have some major salary cap issues, and I am projecting Mostert to be on the roster for the 2024 season.

Mostert provided so much to their offense last season; cutting him wouldn’t save them much money. I can see Miami running it back and rolling with their backfield again. As long as Mostert is in a similar role with the Dolphins as last year, he is well worth buying right now. Even if you get 80% of the previous year’s production, it is well worth a random third-round rookie pick.

These values and mindsets are subject to change because the offseason has just begun. With free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft looming, everything can change in the blink of an eye. The offseason is the time to position yourself to be successful and available during the regular season. Needless to say, it would help if you made moves now to accrue value and reap the benefits.
