Bijan Robinson Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023

Fantasy Football Outlook

This NFL season we have a curious outlook on the running back position. Rather recently, some of the starting running backs met in a “Zoom meeting” to discuss their outlook on being paid and durability. The Atlanta Falcons on the other hand have their running backs to lean on for years to come. With the eighth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Robinson was picked from the Texas Longhorns. He was electric at Texas on the field scoring 18 touchdowns on the ground and leading the Big 12 conference in that category in 2022.

Furthermore, he won the Doak Walker Award in 2022 meaning he was the nation’s top running back. From the Texas Longhorns official site; “Robinson, who leads the nation in tandem yards with 1,894 (1,580 rushing, 314 receiving) and is second in total touchdowns (20), is averaging a Big 12-best 131.7 rushing yards and 157.83 all-purpose yards per game”.

Robinson proved to the world that college football wasn’t for him anymore spending three years in Austin, Texas, and landing in the Atlanta Falcons organization. In our 2023 Fantasy Football PPR Rankings, he is the number four overall pick and in running back rankings he is number four overall. That is high praise for a 21-year-old rookie and the situation he is put in is going into his favor. I understand the team has multiple options at the running back spot but there’s a reason why Robinson was picked in the first round.

The Atlanta Falcons have second-year running back Tyler Allgeier coming off a thousand-yard season and Cordarrelle Patterson that is extremely versatile. Patterson is more of a multi-tool weapon in the backfield that has shown off his pass-catching ability.  The duo of Allgeier and Robinson is going to ruthless with Patterson lining up in the receiver slot.

Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023

Robinson has all the tools to fly high in the league this season. The Atlanta Falcons loved running ball last year especially with Desmond Ridder taking over the quarterback position. “In 2022, the Atlanta Falcons ran the ball on 55.29% of their plays, exceeded only by the Chicago Bears, who rushed at a 56.19% clip. Those squads were joined by just the Baltimore Ravens as the only three teams to run the ball more often than they passed it over the course of the season”

Ultimately, I expect it to be the same percentage or more in the 2023 NFL season. The team’s wide receiver options are led by Drake London and veterans who have bounced around teams. Do the Atlanta Falcons trust Ridder in his second season leading this team at quarterback? That is a difficult question to answer before the season of course. In the end, the running back group will depend on a lot of snaps especially if they are playing from behind.

There is no reason not to trust Robinson to receive as much playing time as he can handle. Our rankings above show him highly talked about and I don’t understand why you can’t trust him at the top of the board. Allegeier will see snaps in the backfield and could start early in the season. However, the Atlanta Falcons will want to see Robinson as often as possible. Last season, we saw how much Allegeir ran the ball. If Robinson takes the same amount of snaps, he will be able to run all over teams. Check out where he ranks in our up-to-date PPR fantasy football rankings.

Dynasty Football Outlook

I am going to keep this simple. For your dynasty leagues, Robinson is a safe pick in this offense in all formats for your team and he is ready to take you to the promised land. If you are worried about injury or if he doesn’t see a high workload at the start of the season, you can handcuff him with Allegeier. We broke down how Robinson had a case to be the RB1 overall in dynasty leagues, before he was even drafted, here.
