D’Andre Swift – Fantasy Football Fallout

D'Andre Swift - Fantasy Football Fallout

Day 1 of the NFL Draft is behind us and we’re onto Day 2. The Detroit Lions held the 6th pick before trading down to the 12th pick with the Arizona Cardinals. While many players were available, the Detroit Lions pulled a fast one. Surprisingly, with positional needs available to them, the Lions went on to select Jahmyr Gibbs with the 12th overall Pick.

Here we are now and we have a new rookie in Jahmyr Gibbs, freshly signed free-agent David Montgomery, and fourth-year running back D’Andre Swift. Consequently, many are already writing off Swift saying the Lions hate him and are moving on from him. The other side is saying he is going to be at least a Day 2 trade piece to another team. Which one will it be? Let’s take a look and see.

D’Andre Swift Traded to the Philadelphia Eagles

All things considered, Swift was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a seventh-rounder (No.219, Antoine Green. The writing was on the wall for Swift who hasn’t lived up to expectations in Detroit. Swift, being in the last year on his contract now joins free-agent signee Rashaad Penny. While the Eagles had a hole to fill in the backfield after Miles Sanders departure in free-agency, Swift gets a fresh start in a city close to home.

Landing on the Eagles should give Swift the opportunity to land the lion share of the touches, as long as he can stay healthy. It’s a low-risk, high-reward trade for the Eagles as they look to go on another Super Bowl run.

For dynasty fantasy football purposes, I would be willing to take a late-2023 first for him in hopes  he can have a bounce back in his career. He is the perfect RB2 on your fantasy team with RB1 upside in PPR.
