The million-dollar quarterback is set to make strides in the Big Apple this season. This offseason Daniel Jones signed a four-year extension worth $160 million dollars. Clearly, the Giants believe in him and the contract simply proves that to us. The tools added to this offense to help sustain the abilities of Jones. Is this the season he makes the big stride going into this third year in the NFL?
Jones is now the franchise quarterback. Darren Waller is now with the team where he was traded this offseason and is a viable tool in the offense. Waller not only brings experience but is also a huge target for Jones to trust. Despite the injuries, Waller has always been a constant option with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Darius Slayton is coming off a 700 receiving yard season which is a downfield threat. Meanwhile, Isiah Hodgins popped off late in the season on the Buffalo Bills and signed with the New York Giants in the offseason. Hodgins proved his worth in the preseason already earning 58 receiving yards on three receptions. We already know Saquon Barkley is a threat in the offense. Parris Campbell coming off a 600-yard receiving season from the Indianapolis Colts which he signed with the New York Giants this offseason.
Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023
The tools in this offense are certainly able to boost the stats from the previous season for Jones. The passing yards may not seem exciting but the rushing yards are something that adds value. Furthermore, last season he earned over 700 rushing yards along with seven touchdowns on the ground. He may not have wheels but he can scramble out of the pocket!
In our 2023 Fantasy Football PPR Rankings, he is the 12th-ranked quarterback. In rankings, the top 10 may be a stretch with the quarterbacks above him. I am expecting him to sustain the top 15 rankings quite easily. The weapons on the offense as well as the rushing yards he can earn will form his abilities this season.
Preseason football gives us a glimpse of starters on the offense of the New York Giants. The team captain Jones simply showed off in the preseason. On August 18th, 2023 in the final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, he had a stat line of 8 completions in 9 passing attempts with a touchdown. Furthermore, you can’t ask for much more from your starting quarterback in preseason!
Dynasty Football Outlook
In dynasty fantasy football leagues, things are pretty exciting for Jones. In our latest Dynasty Football Rankings, he is ranked 16th for all quarterbacks. The recent contract extension will certainly help Jones’ dynasty value as well as Waller’s contract. In dynasty leagues, his long-term outlook is a bit worrisome, depending on who you ask. Many fantasy managers still aren’t convinced that Jones is the real deal. There’s some reason for hesitation, but all things considered, he should be leading this team for the foreseeable future.
In 1QB leagues, Jones is a decent option to rely on, at least for the next few seasons. However, he is much more appealing in Superflex or 2QB leagues as your QB2 on your rosters.
Overall, I’d consider Jones a hold/sell-high candidate right now. If you’re set up to win now and need a quarterback, he’s a fine option. However, if you’re not set up to win now, you might sell Jones to a contending team for some youth or future 2024 draft picks.
