DeAndre Hopkins 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Football Outlook

DeAndre Hopkins found a new home in Nashville and is ready to prove his worth. He signed a two-year prove-it deal and took his talents away from Arizona. The performance-enhancing drug (PED) suspension caused him to miss six games last season. In nine games, he earned over 90 targets and 700 receiving yards.

This season he is coming in with a new mindset and the best receiver on the team quite easily. It’s true, the injury history needs to be accounted for. However, there is hope in looking past it. On Pro Football Talk, Ryan Tannehill is loving Hopkins in training camp by stating, “So, as a quarterback, it’s been a lot of fun to find those areas where I can put the ball where only he can get it, and then he’s making the play.”

Hopkins is going to be a target funnel on the team, and the recent injury that Treylon Burks is something to be aware of. In addition, Kyle Phillips, Chris Moore, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine are receivers who don’t have the talent of Hopkins. Overall, this is his team, and the targets will be flowing his way, especially as a safety net.

Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023

In our 2023 Fantasy Football PPR Rankings, he is 29th overall in the wide receiver category. The quarterback room is shaky on the team, but we have seen him break through with mediocre quarterbacks in Houston. The three guys above him in the rankings who he can jump are:

  • Tyler Lockett
  • Christian Watson
  • Christian Kirk

Calvin Ridley is back on the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he could impact Kirks’s targets. Romeo Doubs is flashing in camp, and I am unsure about Watson being the number-one receiver with the Green Bay Packers. We can’t forget the connection with DK Metcalf and Geno Smith on the Seattle Seahawks. Hopkins can certainly skyrocket in the rankings over those three guys directly above him.

Hopkins can be a top-25 receiver by the end of the season if injuries don’t impact him. Age is just a number, and the physicality he sustains is still there. In 50 games played, his median PPR fantasy football point score is 17.1 points.

Including all the player’s positions in the NFL, he is the 32nd-ranked player with his median PPR point score. Training camp is shedding light on our outlook for him. Furthermore, I certainly believe the playmaking Hopkins is back in business.

Dynasty Football Outlook

Where it gets interesting is what you do with Hopkins in Dynasty Leagues. In our Dynasty Football rankings, he is the 40th-ranked wide receiver. If you are afraid of the uncertainty, he is certainly a guy you can trade for younger pieces for your team.

Lastly, standard or PPR fantasy football leagues is where I want all of Hopkins besides dynasty. He can be your gadget guy in your second wide receiver spot on your team. He can be a lower-end wide receiver on your team, depending on the matchup in your number one spot. The Benjamin Button effect can be there for Hopkins this season!
