Derrick Henry Fantasy Football Outlook (2024)

The Baltimore Ravens tried trading for Derrick Henry at the 2023 NFL trade deadline. However, Tennessee Titans ownership refused to sign off on the deal. Ultimately, it didn’t matter as Baltimore signed the star running back in free agency to a somewhat team-friendly contract.

Last year, the Ravens had one of the top rushing attacks in the NFL, ranking first in rushing yards with 2,661. They accomplished that feat despite losing JK Dobbins in Week 1 and Keaton Mitchell in Week 15 to season-ending injuries. Gus Edwards was the team’s top running back, ending the year as the RB20, averaging 10.6 half-point PPR fantasy points, thanks to a career-high 13 rushing touchdowns.

However, Baltimore had plans to upgrade at running back in free agency, so they allowed Edwards to sign with the Los Angeles Chargers. Meanwhile, Mitchell might be worth a stash in dynasty fantasy football leagues, but that’s about it. While Henry is on the wrong side of 30, the veteran has plenty of gas left in the tank. Despite playing behind arguably the worst offensive line in the NFL, the star running back was the RB8 in 2023, averaging 13.7 fantasy points per game.

Thankfully, Henry now gets to play behind one of the top run-blocking offensive lines in the league. Furthermore, defenses can no longer stack the box against him with Lamar Jackson under center. While the veteran shouldn’t get drafted as an RB1, fantasy football players should feel confident having him as their RB2 next season.
