DraftKings Week 2 Bargain Bin Plays

draftkings-value-picks-week-2

After an exciting kickoff of the 2022 regular season Sunday’s main slate, we have another exciting week of DFS coming at us in Week 2! With the first week in the books, we as DFS players gave a better idea of players to fade and players to pay up for. Our DraftKings lineups will be looking for bargains on players during the Sunday Main Slate who should return 3-4 times the value at a discount that they shouldn’t be at.

One easy bargain bin I’m passing up on is Jeff Wilson. He’s going to be more of a “chalk” play this week and will be in many lineups as the “free space”.

Before I break down all of our picks, here are the most notable scoring rules for DraftKings contests: Full-point PPR, four-point passing TDs, three-point bonuses for 100 rushing yards, 100 receiving yards, and 300 passing yards. Along with having a $50,000 budget to build a complete lineup.

Quarterbacks

Derek Carr ($6,200)

Last week Derek Carr didn’t have a great game going 22 of 37 for 295 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. What I like about Carr this week is based on what he did in last week’s 24-19 loss and passed for almost 300 yards. This week the Raiders get the Arizona Cardinals who gave up 37.9 points to Patrick Mahomes. Carr should feed his receivers in a game that should be a high-scoring affair.

Jameis Winston ($5,500)

Going up only $200 from last week is still a value play. Jameis Winston took three-quarters of football before it started clicking in the fourth quarter. Finishing with 21.7 points was a very great start to the season for Winston and the Saints. What better way to go into week two against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? The Saints have Tampa Bay’s number, and this game is in New Orleans. The last time Winston played against the Buccaneers was the same game he tore his ACL in and he was having quite a game. I feel a little bit of revenge playing here.

Marcus Mariota ($5,600)

This is a bit of a risky play, but I always like to look at it as a “no risk it, no biscuit” type of play. The Los Angeles Rams will be looking for revenge as they got embarrassed 31-10 last week on national television. Mariota isn’t the best passer that we saw last week but he had 12 rushes for 72 yards. If he can get Drake London and Kyle Pitts going, along with his rushing, we could see a 100-yard bonus in play.

Running Backs

Josh Jacobs ($5,800)

If I’m thinking Derek Carr and the passing offense gets going, shouldn’t Josh Jacobs? Last week the Raider’s running game couldn’t get moving because they were already playing catch up. Even though Jacobs had 10 carries, he was still able to turn it into 57 yards. Also, he only had one reception (one target) for another 16 yards, and hopefully, he can improve on that part of his game too. Clyde Edwards-Helaire had two touchdowns through the air while Isiah Pacheco had a rushing touchdown, both doing it with ease. Feels like a good bounce-back week for Jacobs.

Darrell Henderson ($5,700), Cam Akers ($5,600)

This one I’ve been going back and forth on when trying to figure out who to use in this situation. So why not both? I’m not saying use both in a lineup, that just seems way too risky. In other words, use them how you think they will be used. I like both so here’s my view on each Rams running back.

Darrell Henderson was the lead back last week and had 13 rushes for 47 yards along with five receptions for another 26 yards. Henderson looked the part of the lead back and should continue to be the lead back till proven otherwise. It’s his backfield to lose.

Cam Akers only played 18% of the running back opportunities, turning three carries in for zero yards. There was a catch and run he made out of the backfield, but was called back due to a penalty. Head coach Sean McVay has expressed increasing the workload for Akers. Here’s a great reason to jump back on the Akers train. Sure it’s only $100 cheaper, but why not?

Michael Carter ($5,200)

Who thought that Michael Carter would be better than Breece Hall? If you’re saying you did, you’re lying and that’s okay. Both Jets running backs are listed for the same value, but if I’m taking one this week, my money is on Carter. Carter was the lead back and even though he didn’t score, he didn’t fumble as Hall did. I think it solidifies Carter this week with a Joe Flacco-led offense that looks to do a bunch of dump-offs to the running backs. Fire up Carter as the Jets should be trailing again against the Cleveland Browns.

Rex Burkhead ($4,900)

I can’t give up on Rex Burkhead no matter how many years I play fantasy football, he’s still on my dynasty team. None of you care about that, but more of the reason to play Sexy Rexy. Last week I felt like it was going to be a Burkhead game. On Beer Fueled Podcast I brought up Burkhead being $100 more than Dameon Pierce and I had a feeling it may be a Burkhead week because of it. Burkhead had 14 carries (56%) compared to Pierce (44%) of the backfield carries, but it was Burkhead who led the way with eight targets compared to Pearce’s one.

Wide Receivers

Courtland Sutton ($6,100), Jerry Jeudy ($5,600)

Both wide receivers had seven targets, but it was Jerry Jeudy who finished with the better stat line. Courtland Sutton had the longest catch of 30 yards, but it was Jeudy who had a beautiful 67-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Both wide receivers have a good matchup against the Texans who gave up six 20+ receptions to the Colts last week, two of them to Michael Pittman. The Broncos should bounce back at home against the Texans and using one of these two wide receivers is a must this week! Sutton is on the borderline of not being a bargain play, but Jeudy on the other hand is a nice consolation piece to use.

Michael Thomas ($5,800)

If I’m going back to Jameis Winston, I’m going back and using Michael Thomas while his cost is so cheap. Seeing his first playing time since the 2020 playoffs (against the Buccaneers to say the least) we got to see flashes of the Michael Thomas of old. This week against the Buccaneers should be a back-and-forth type of game as these two teams play well and are tough against each other. I wouldn’t even be afraid to play Jarvis Landry ($5,000) as he led this team in targets (9) and receiving yards (114).

Curtis Samuel ($4,600)

The last time we saw any real value from Curtis Samuel was last week (20.2 points) and realistically in the 2019-2020 season. After that, he was a forgotten player, and now is making a resurgence. Last week he was Carson Wentz’s go-to receiver as he led all receivers with 11 targets. Let’s not forget that Ron Rivera was in Carolina when a p lol Samuel was drafted and signed in free agency to join the Commanders.

Samuel won’t always lead this team in targets, but against the Detroit Lions, he should be able to put up good numbers. Furthermore, with Brian Robinson wing out, Samuel gets running back carries. He could be this year’s Deebo Samuel with the rushing opportunities. Once he gets past Detroit’s linebackers, it should be a wide-open field as the Lions’ secondary is still trying to figure itself out.

Jakobi Meyers ($4,400)

Everywhere you are going to see and read “don’t start any Patriots until further notice”. This week I’m willing to take the chance on Jakobi Meyers. Why do you ask? Because he once again was the target leader (6) and yardage leader (55) with his usual zero touchdowns. He’s a sneaky play as he looks to be the Patriots WR1 still and it feels like nobody cares.

Mac Jones returning to practice alone should help Meyers come out and produce. This week against the Pittsburgh Steelers I like Meyers to have good opportunities to put up numbers. Look at what the Bengals did! Sure Joe Burrow threw the ball 59 times, but there were a lot of pass catchers getting 5+ targets. It’s a touchdown or bust kind of play this week but I see a touchdown in his view this week.

Tight Ends

Albert Okwuegbunam ($3,700)

This is never a fun position to try and play, but if you don’t look at Albert Okwuegbunam’s stats and watch the game instead, he was inches away from scoring a touchdown. Outside of that, he finished with five receptions off of six targets for 33 yards. Would have been over 10 points on the week which would have made him a top-10 tight end for the slate. He’ll look to try and convert a score this week.

Hayden Hurst ($3,600)

Hayden Hurst was having a quiet day until Tee Higgins went out with a concussion. If Higgins isn’t able to suit up, I like Hurst this week against the Dallas Cowboys as he could be Joe Burrow‘s safety blanket when Micah Parsons is trying to get to Burrow who took seven sacks in week 1.

Juwan Johnson ($2,500)

If you blow the bank on all your other positions, make sure to go cheap at the tight end. What better one to play this week than Juwan Johnson who had two catches (five targets) for 42 yards. Yeah, it’s not much to brag about here, especially when Taysom Hill is rushing for touchdowns. But it was Johnson who was more involved in the passing game. Desperation measures are showing here, but if Johnson can take that step here in week two, we may be onto something here.

DST/Special Teams

Bengals ($2,200)

No Dak Prescott for at least the next four weeks, is Cooper Rush the answer? Eat the chalk on this one.
