Dynasty Fantasy Football Buys: Quarterbacks

trey-lance-dynasty-buys

The off-season is arguably just as fun or even more fun for hardcore dynasty fantasy football fans than the regular season is. With all of the hype around the new rookie class and your upcoming rookie drafts, it is hard not to get hooked on dynasty league football. The off-season is also a great time to make some changes to your rosters, which is what we want to help you with. Here are a few players that I’d be looking to acquire in Dynasty Fantasy Football Buys: Quarterbacks.

Trey Lance

Trey Lance as a dynasty buy might seem a little bit strange as he is a hot topic at the quarterback position at the moment. However, his value has not moved in a major way just yet, therefore I think it would be a better move to acquire him now rather than trying to buy him closer to the start of the season. Definitely try to do so before an official statement comes out about the 49ers moving on from Jimmy Garoppolo, which I’d expect anytime.

What should anyone buying Lance expect from him for fantasy purposes? Lance will be a quarterback that won’t throw the ball too often but he will have plenty of rushing attempts to compensate for that. Lance is a similar mold to Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, and Kyler Murray. Lance has the potential to finish as a top-five fantasy football quarterback next season due to his rushing upside. For that reason, he is a player that dynasty managers should be looking to acquire.

Davis Mills

When I think of a true buy-low quarterback, I think of Davis Mills. The Houston Texans quarterback had a good rookie campaign throwing for 16 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions in 13 games, whilst throwing for 2,664 yards. The only rookie quarterback to better his statistics was Mac Jones. Yet Mills is still valued much lower than the other starting quarterbacks from his draft class. Mills doesn’t give you the rushing upside that Lance or Justin Fields does, however, for the price that you can pick him up for, he is well worth buying, especially in Superflex leagues. Mills’ managers will be hoping the Texans add some weapons to the team to help Mills next season to give the young quarterback a good chance of building on a good rookie season.

Mills could be bought for a second-round pick, which I think is good value, especially in Superflex leagues.

Mason Rudolph/Dwayne Haskins

As we all know by now, Ben Roethlisberger has retired from football leaving the quarterback position in Pittsburgh wide open. Despite all the rumors of the Steelers drafting or trading for a quarterback, they do have two quarterbacks on the roster that will be competing for the job. Dwayne Haskins is very likely to receive an original round tender which would allow him to compete with Mason Rudolph for the starting job. Rudolph and Haskins are widely available on waiver wires, therefore you probably won’t even need to trade for them. However, if you decided to take a shot on either player, they could be bought cheaply. Pittsburgh has some talented players on offense to help whoever takes over the role. Both players would be desperation options, and I would rather trade for Mills or someone with a similar value than either Rudolph or Haskins. Unless Pittsburgh makes a move for a quarterback, both players will hold small value as potential starters. They are wait-and-see players, with low risk and potentially high rewards.

Other Buys: Marcus Mariota, Mitch Trubisky, and Deshaun Watson
