Dynasty Rookie Profile: Breece Hall

Breece Hall is the most complete back in the class. Analytics favor Hall with things like his dominator rating.  This means the percentage of his usage versus the entire team. This translates to 75.7% of his team’s rushing yards coming through him and 43.4% of Iowa State’s entire offensive yards came through him.

The film community has him just as high, his film grades ahead of the rest of the class.  He displays proper patience and balance at the point of contact to gain additional yards.  He rarely picks a wrong lane or loses yards due to indecision.  While he does not have elite speed, he has his quickness is very much on display when he commits to an alley.  A lazy comp that’s been running out there has been David Montgomery.

His film breaks down a lot more similar to that of Kareem Hunt.  Remember Hunt in Kansas City?  I remember drafting him early and winning a league because of it. While he may not be a mismatched piece you can line up outside in the passing game, he catches the ball naturally with his hands.

His usage numbers will be used often in arguments of why he shouldn’t be the best player.  800 carries is a lot but remember two very honest things.  First, he has been healthy, with nothing more than the occasional single-game injury. Second, with running backs declining substantially after the first six years, how much longer do you expect his competition to hold up than him?  Hall has been absolutely dominant at his school for his entire career at the running back position.  Whom else can you really say that about at the top of this class?

Don’t overthink the position.  Hall is an absolute bell-cow back by design, being equipped for any down and distance.  For all the knocks against Hall, I’ve been willing to put him ahead of some prospects from 2021 at the position.  Hall has the absolute most to offer at the running back position, anything else is a cry for attention. Short of catastrophic injury or bizarre landing spot, you shouldn’t see Hall fall outside of the top three in your rookie drafts, even in Superflex leagues.
