Running Back – Georgia

6’1, 210 lbs

Strengths

One of the underrated running backs in this 2023 rookie class is Kenny McIntosh, out of Georgia. The first thing you’ll notice in his game is that he is terrific in the passing game. He can be used all over the formation and can be used to catch passes past the line of scrimmage. Additionally, with his agility and the way he manipulates tacklers out in space, he has the ability to turn medium gains into long ones.

McIntosh also carries the size that NFL teams want in order to classify him as potential to be an every-down back. He stepped up this year totaling over 1,300 all-purpose yards after being stuck behind James Cook and Zamir White in previous seasons. His work on special teams and kick returns should help with convincing a team to give him reps early on.

Weaknesses

With limited reps through college, his technique might need some work. He doesn’t always make the best decision when given a less-than-obvious running lane. With more reps, he could gain better patience and make more effective choices in the run game. He runs with his pads high, which can hurt his momentum when running into a group of defenders. Finally, ball security has been an issue that stands out due to his limited touches as well.

NFL Fit and Draft Capital

McIntosh is a Senior so there will be room to push him down in rookie drafts based on that alone. He comes from the Georgia backfield which can be a difficult evaluation. Much like running backs in previous years, McIntosh is part of a committee backfield of many potential NFL talents. He doesn’t get to prove how much work he can handle in a game because of this. Additionally, these players will have highlights in limited action, and may not develop as much as their high school star rating would hope.

The NFL Draft should have him being drafted in the 3rd or 4th round. Teams selecting him should be looking at him as a complementary running back who can potentially step into the starting role if needed. For dynasty purposes, this will put McIntosh into the late second round of rookie drafts as his upside is there. In the end, he might move into the middle of the second round should he get an ideal landing spot.
