Fantasy Football Outlook – James Cook to the Bills

Buffalo has been a popular spot for a rookie running back to land, and I love this fit. James Cook was my RB4 going into the draft. Cook made plenty of splash plays in college and gives a speed dynamic that is needed in the Buffalo backfield.  Buffalo moved down in the draft and still got the player they were looking at there.

The Bills have made it a point this offseason to try to get the team to have to rely less on Josh Allen.  A beefed-up defense and explosive check down in Cook will help in doing just that.

Rookie Profile

Pick: Round 2, Pick 63 Overall

Redraft Outlook

Don’t expect Cook to step in and take the lead back role this year. In redraft, he is a high-end handcuff to Devin Singletary and possibly an RB3 for bye weeks. There is room to grow from that role, but anything more shifts quickly into wishful thinking, and further from the most likely outcome. Cook is a pass-catching specialist, but Singletary excels in the passing game as well. Temper your expectations on immediate production from Cook.

Dynasty Outlook

Singletary will be a free agent after this year and Zack Moss the season after. Cook’s ceiling in the NFL will be as an RB2 until further notice. His limited usage in college has lead to questions on how well he can hold up to a full workload in the NFL.  In Dynasty drafts, anything before the 1.09 is a reach.
