Fantasy Football Outlook – Kenny Pickett to the Steelers

After Day 1 of the NFL Draft, we were all in awe of the quarterbacks in general. Why wasn’t Malik Willis drafted? I thought he was the Pittsburgh Steelers selection, I even had it in one of my mock drafts. Getting a better understanding of the “Why” on quarterback Kenny Pickett is all coming together now.

The Pitt Panthers and the Pittsburgh Steeler practice on the same field. Now, this is all just my opinion, but I think it gave coach Mike Tomlin more exposure to the quarterback than anyone else. What a hell of a smokescreen as I know probably all of us had them taking Willis and not Pickett.

Pick: Round 1, Pick 20

Redraft Outlook

From a perspective of the now moment, this quarterback room is wide open. Sure they signed Mitch Trubisky to a two-year deal, but is he the answer? Most people would say no. We could still realistically see Trubisky be the Week 1 starter. After that, depending on the Steelers’ record, we’ll see when they decide to throw the rookie out there.

Keep in mind, the Steelers haven’t had a losing season since 2003 when they went 6-10. Pickett should go undrafted and remain on the waiver wire until further notice in redraft leagues, as there won’t be much redraft value. At least to begin with.

Dynasty Outlook

Pickett will be someone who can be drafted in the early rounds of rookie drafts for those of you who are in 2QB/ Superflex leagues. In 1QB drafts, he’ll likely go in the second-round somewhere as even potential starters tend to get picked up in the 1QB drafts.

Based on where he was drafted and with his draft capital, he’s the rookie that would be viewed as the closest to being ready to start. His only competition is Trubisky, and he has at least a year to develop into a low-end starter, if not sometime throughout the season.
