Former NFL and Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett tragically died on June 27, 2023, at the age of 35. He drowned while swimming in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida. Mallett was pronounced dead at a local hospital after being transported from the beach.

Mallett played college football at the University of Arkansas, where he was a two-year starter and led the Razorbacks to an SEC championship game appearance in 2011. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft and played for the Patriots, Houston Texans, and Baltimore Ravens over the course of his seven-year NFL career.

In a statement, the Arkansas Razorbacks said that Mallett was “a Razorback legend with larger-than-life talent and a personality to match.” They said that he “led our program to some of our best moments in recent memory” and that he would be “deeply missed by all who knew him.”

The cause of Mallett’s drowning is not yet known. However, authorities said that there were no signs of foul play.
