Fantasy Football Outlook

Despite all the projections, the Detroit Lions had a fantastic 2022 season, racking up 9 wins. You might say 9 wins is nothing and they didn’t make the playoffs. However, the season was a massive improvement and the bridge quarterback turned into the starter for this upcoming season. Jared Goff was supposed to be an afterthought and a bridge quarterback. Instead, this team believes in Goff and the trust was shown last season. It is time for us fantasy football managers to believe in him for this upcoming season! Today, I’ll be breaking down the 2023 fantasy football outlook for Goff.

Goff is coming off a season where he threw for over 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns. In both of those categories, he was top 10 for quarterbacks last year. He has all the tools to certainly smash those stats once again.  In our 2023 PPR Fantasy Football Draft Rankings, he is the 16th ranked in the quarterback category while overall he is 124th overall.  I am not saying he can be a top-five quarterback this season, but he can easily make the top-ten ranked or hover around the top 15 quarterbacks, especially with the lack of interceptions made at only seven last season.

Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023

There are not any coaching changes that will hurt Goff coming into this offense.  I will say on the defensive end there were coaching additions. The recent addition of Teddy Bridgewater doesn’t scare me off of him whatsoever. If anything, the signing will add fuel to his fire of wanting to play to the best of his ability. Speaking of offense, it is hard to not love the connection between him and Amon-Ra St. Brown. The self-proclaimed “Sun God” is coming off a massive 1,000 receiving-yard season and he’s solidifying himself as a top wide receiver in the NFL. The link was lights out last season and it is hard to not love this duo.

More on the offense, Marvin Jones Jr. is back with the team after playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars and this addition will bring a veteran presence. Josh Reynolds has always been a downfield threat and we can’t forget about the former second-round NFL Draft pick out of the New York Jets, Denzel Mims. I understand injuries didn’t help Mims last season but the Detroit Lions are holding high hopes for him. We can’t forget about the young stud that is suspended for the first six games in Jameson Williams. Last but not least, rookie Jahmyr Gibbs is a name everyone is talking about that was drafted in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft that has massive pass-catching ability.

Simply say the least, the offense is like a Swiss Army Knife that has many valuable tools. He has a young team with a sprinkle of veteran presence that can keep him stable in this offense. The biggest question I have for everyone is can he lead this team to the playoffs?

Dynasty Football Outlook

For your dynasty leagues, Goff has proven that he is much more than a bridge or afterthought quarterback. He is only 28 years old and still has room to improve. In standard 1QB leagues, he is a viable second quarterback option to stream, or if you are on a bye week needing a flier. In your Superflex leagues, Goff is looking like a solid value and holds plenty of long-term value. He’s proven he is a worthy NFL starting quarterback and should be great in your Superflex leagues.

You can always depend on the connection that Goff has with Brown. Call me crazy but I believe in this offense with Goff ready to prove the world wrong. All things considered, Goff is a very nice and reliable option to have for years to come in your dynasty fantasy football leagues.
