Fantasy Football Outlook: The wide receiver is a popular pick in dynasty rookie drafts and redraft leagues this offseason. Smith-Njigba barely played last season at Ohio State because of injuries. However, he was unstoppable in 2021, totaling 95 receptions for 1,606 receiving yards and nine touchdowns despite playing alongside Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave.
Therefore, fantasy players shouldn’t be worried about the rookie sharing targets with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in Seattle. Unfortunately, the wrist injury slightly complicates his fantasy outlook for this season.
The former Ohio State star suffered the injury in the Seahawks’ Week 2 preseason matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Smith-Njigba will undergo surgery today to fix a broken bone in his wrist. However, the rookie reportedly could be ready for the start of the regular season.
Fantasy players should move the rookie wide receiver down a spot or two in their wide receiver rankings. While the injury isn’t ideal, Smith-Njigba could be ready for Week 1, making the impact of the injury minimal.
