Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em – Fantasy Football Week 14 (2023)
Welcome to another edition of our weekly Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em. In this series, we’re here to help you set your lineups and put yourself in a position to win your fantasy football matchups each week. With nine weeks in the books, it’s time to take a look at Week 14 of the 2023 NFL and fantasy football season.
These players will be those “less-obvious” players that you’re on the fence about starting as your WR3 or Flex type of options. Nobody needs to tell you to start Patrick Mahomes or Christian McCaffrey.
Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 14
Week 14 Start Em
Justin Fields QB – Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions
Since returning from injury, Justin Fields hasn’t exactly been blowing the doors off of everyone. In the last two weeks, he has thrown for 169 and 217 yards, rushed for 104 and 59 yards, and scored one touchdown. With a few years under his belt, this has become about the normal stat line for Fields. This week he faces division rivals, the Detroit Lions who have been giving up a fair amount of points to quarterbacks this season. They are top five in the league in fantasy points per game to quarterbacks at nearly 20 and top three in D-PAC against quarterbacks at 6.28. I’m looking for one of those splash games for Fields this week.
Devin Singletary -RB Houston Texans at New York Jets
In the three weeks, before last week, the Texans gave Singletary over 80% of the snap share and he rewarded them with strong performances. Last week he was under 50% of snap share and he only had 36 yards rushing while averaging 4.5 yards per carry. What this tells me is, keep that motor running and give Singletary the ball! As strong as the Jets are against the pass, they have been leaky against the run, giving up 24 points per game to running backs and a second-highest D-PAC score of 8.62. I know you might be hesitant, but keep Singletary in your lineup this week.
Jaylen Waddle WR – Miami Dolphins vs. Tennessee Titans
Owners of Jaylen Waddle have to be a little disappointed in this season. He was drafted as a low-end WR1 in a dynamic offense, however, his production has been more down than up. He has had a couple of WR1 production games, but mostly he’s been WR2 or even WR3 stat-wise. The Dolphins get another cake-walk game this week against the Titans, who are allowing nearly 39 points per game to wide receivers. Hopefully, they watched what Washington did (or didn’t) do last week and they double up Tyreek Hill, which will give Waddle a ton of room to roam.
Dalton Schultz or Brevin Jordan TE – Houston Texans at New York Jets
This is my alternative to the Nico Collins sit. While the Jets have been great against wide receivers, they have been torched by tight ends giving up nearly 13 points per game to tight ends and a second-highest D-PAC score of 3.72. It’s still up in the air if Dalton Schultz or Brevin Jordan will get the start this week, as Schultz missed last week with a hamstring injury, however, Jordan filled in for him admirably with three receptions for 64 yards. Schultz had a string of really good games as well, before his injury. I would feel safe in starting either of these tight ends against the Jets.
Week 14 Sit Em
Matthew Stafford QB – Los Angeles Rams at Baltimore Ravens
What a freaking game for Matthew Stafford last week, putting up 279 yards and three touchdowns on a very tough Browns defense. This week he has an even tougher matchup against the Ravens, in Baltimore. The Ravens have a league-low D-PAC score of 2.76 only giving up 11 points per game to quarterbacks. Being this late in the season, and probably at the start of the playoffs, it is hard to sit a starter, but this might be that tough decision that gets you to the next round.
D’Andre Swift RB – Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys
This Eagles team takes pride in being able to successfully run the ball, and their results reflect that. When they can dictate to the opposing defense, with their running game, they more times than not, win the game. Last week they got a little bit away from that as the 49ers got a big league and the Eagles had to pass much more to catch up. Playing the Cowboys this week, who are strong against the run only allowing 17 points per game to running backs, I believe the Eagles will be in a similar situation and need to throw much more. I’m not expecting a lot of good numbers for Swift this week.

Nico Collins WR – Houston Texans at New York Jets
What a game for Nico Collins last week, torching the Broncos for nine catches, 191 yards, and a touchdown. Collins has all the looks and tools to be a dynamic wide receiver in the NFL, but up until last week, everyone had been waiting for all those pluses to show up on the field. However, this is the perfect trap matchup for fantasy owners to fall into. Collins has a monster game and then has to match up against Sauce “I like to hold” Gardner.
The Jets’ defense, while not great against the run, has been one of the best against the pass only giving up 22 points per game to wide receivers. This is a big test for CJ Stroud and this Texans offense and I’m expecting a pedestrian performance for Collins.
Evan Engram TE – Jacksonville Jaguars at Cleveland Browns
Here I am, making another sit pick on a player coming off a monster game. Evan Engram went off for a huge game against the Bengals last week, hauling in nine catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. However, things took a bad turn when Trevor Lawrence went down with a high-ankle sprain and C.J. Beathard took over at quarterback. I don’t have much confidence in Beathard being able to maintain this offense, especially against a dominant Browns defense. The Browns are only allowing five points per game to tight ends, and this will continue. Sit Engram this week.
