Way Too Early 2024 Dynasty 2QB Rookie Mock Draft
Dynasty football managers will be excited when the 2024 NFL Draft comes around. The early production in college at the quarterback position has been an encouraging sign this college season. Especially in your 2QB and Superflex leagues.
We’ve seen good numbers from established prospects Caleb Williams, Quinn Ewers, and Michael Penix Jr., as well as tremendous production from breakout Heisman candidates Sam Hartman and Shedeur Sanders. The growth of these players and their stock for the next level has risen early on in the season, giving dynasty fantasy football managers confidence.
This rookie mock draft will display the depth of the 2024 class at quarterback, as well as who else deserves to be considered at the top right now. With this level of talent at that position, that means running backs and wide receivers may be able to be picked at significant values. Potential high-end assets in players like TreVeyon Henderson or Emeka Egbuka could go later than they would other years, providing value for managers in the middle and end of rookie first rounds next year. Let’s take a look at how many quarterbacks could leave the board early in 2024, and how that’ll allow the rest of the first round to commence in rookie drafts.
1. QB Caleb Williams, USC
Caleb Williams of USC needs to be at the top of dynasty managers’ wishlists if they aren’t winning games early on this fantasy season. Williams will likely be the NFL’s first overall pick in 2024 and be expected to lead a franchise right away. Williams is a playmaker at the quarterback position; he is going to instantly be a threat to score fantasy points from his rushing alone. Additionally, he has a blend of smooth and full-speed power moves that allow him to move past defenders and extend plays; he’s an incredible athlete at quarterback. He has a big arm that allows him to unlock defenses to go along with his rushing threat.
Williams is a top quarterback prospect and should be an NFL star early in his career. Situations like Trevor Lawrence, Andrew Luck, and now Williams are difficult to see coming, but Williams has all the tools to be a productive top fantasy quarterback early. He’s the top pick for Superflex rookie drafts in 2024, and managers who invest in that pick will be getting him at the cheapest price he will ever be.
2. WR Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State
Much like Williams at quarterback, Marvin Harrison Jr. is also the clear number one at his position for 2024 rookie drafts. Picking him in the top two next season feels like a popular decision as of now, and his ceiling as a special talent at wide receiver likely warrants it. Harrison Jr. has had many big games the last year for the Ohio State Buckeyes and has proved his dominance at the college level. He’s had good coaching to hone his game, being a physically dominating force at all levels of the Buckeyes receiving game.
Harrison Jr. versus quarterback Drake Maye will be a team-based decision at number two overall next year after Williams is off the board. Truthfully, Maye could surpass Harrison Jr. in value as a quarterback for Superflex. However, if Harrison Jr. hits near a Ja’Marr Chase or Justin Jefferson ceiling, most managers will be fine taking him here at two overall. Overall, Harrison Jr. seems as dominant and safe of a pick that a manager can make in 2024, meaning he won’t stick around long in drafts.
3. QB Drake Maye, North Carolina
North Carolina’s Drake Maye has all the arm talent and rushing ability a dynasty manager could want from a top quarterback option. Maye threw for a career-high 38 touchdowns in his sophomore season in 2022. If Maye finds a situation with good running backs and receivers, he’s going to be able to distribute the ball and make fantasy managers happy. He will run a bit, as showcased by providing seven touchdowns on the ground last season. Maye would be the top quarterback in many rookie drafts; his ceiling can allow him to be a top-12 quarterback for fantasy. If Maye can stay in the pocket and make his timing throws, he’s going to make good decisions and show efficiency.
4. RB TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State
TreVeyon Henderson has returned from injury in impressive style, most recently rushing for 88 yards while providing 2 touchdowns for the Buckeyes against Western Kentucky. Henderson had an impressive freshman season on his way to 1,248 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. NFL teams should be encouraged by his speed while still being able to stay on the field with his size. Henderson can be a receiving and rushing threat right away, much like how we expect Jahmyr Gibbs to be used and how Aaron Jones has been used in years past. Henderson should be expected to be an early day-two pick in the NFL Draft and in top-five consideration for rookie drafts.
5. QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
Shedeur Sanders has improved his NFL stock as much as anyone in the college game early this season. With his current trajectory, he should be in first-round consideration for dynasty and the NFL Draft. Sanders is making NFL-type throws and making good decisions following his transfer from Jackson State. Now at a top-level college, Sanders’ game is stepping up to the occasion and he’s catapulted himself into early Heisman discussions. He’s a college star now, but it’s clear his physical talents can translate to the next level.
Sanders is raising the stock of everyone including fellow 2024 prospect Travis Hunter, as well as running back Dylan Edwards, eligible in 2026. Sanders has shown confidence in his teammates and himself which should make an NFL team want to draft him. He’s been productive, plus he’s showing high intellect and understanding of the game. Sanders is quickly becoming a top prospect for 2024 and would currently be an early first-rounder for rookie drafts.
6. RB Raheim Sanders, Arkansas
Arkansas running back Raheim Sanders is going to be ready to contribute early in his NFL career. He can catch the ball well (28 catches in 2022) and is one of the better downhill runners in the class. He has a more physical build than Henderson, but both of these players should be early day-two NFL picks. This 2024 draft feels similar to the Breece Hall and Kenneth Walker draft year, with two elite running back prospects warranting top picks, plus a few Rachaad White and Dameon Pierce-level talents available later on.
Sanders warrants a top pick because of his youth and the possibility of growth in his game. He has the catching ability that should instantly transfer over, and also has impressive strength for his age. He’s going to be a threat in an NFL offense right away; he could become a top-five talent or top-three talent coming out of this class. It may take a couple of years, but dynasty managers picking here in the middle of the first need patience. Sanders is worth waiting for his ceiling, and a good value here at sixth overall.
7. TE Brock Bowers, Georgia
Brock Bowers has been the top tight end prospect for 2024 for a couple of years, and that hype won’t slow down heading into the draft process next year. He’s a fast and agile tight end who excels at making plays in the open field and should continue as a top offensive option in the NFL. Additionally, his speed at the position is a matchup nightmare and he’s done nothing but catch balls and produce while a member of the Georgia Bulldogs. Expect him to continue growing in 2023 alongside a new quarterback, and further prove why he’s worth a top 2024 first-round pick. Some managers may already value him as a top-five player for 2024, which is understandable. With this level of quarterbacks, I’d expect Bowers to be closer to the sixth or seventh player taken. He should be a startable tight end for the next half-decade or longer.
8. QB Quinn Ewers, Texas
Quinn Ewers of Texas has come out and shown off impressive passing skills in 2023. He’s shown better chemistry with teammates and decision-making, having not thrown an interception yet this season. Ewers needed to have a big season to remain a top quarterback option, and as of right now, he’s proving he can be one of those guys. There won’t be a huge rushing threat with Ewers at the next level; he’s going to be a pocket passer moreso in the mold of Kirk Cousins.
If he can continue this efficiency he’s shown to start the college season, NFL teams should be intrigued by the three-year college player enough to take him in the first round. He’s still got time and skills he needs to grow, but he can make many NFL throws right now. He should be a mid-first-round pick for fantasy next season unless we see a significant value change at other positions post-draft. He should see a starting job, it just may not be right away. Give him weapons and a defense, and Ewers may become an efficient passing threat.
9. WR Malik Nabers, Louisiana State
LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers broke out last season for the Tigers and grew with quarterback Jayden Daniels. Now, following another offseason of those two building rapport, Nabers has already tied his touchdown total from last season in just three games. He has a thin frame but still displays enough speed and strength to win downfield. Nabers can be a top two offensive option in the NFL, maybe even spend some time as a top receiver for a team.
Nabers should be a first-round wide receiver due to his speed and game-breaking abilities; he’s a bit like a less refined Jaylen Waddle coming out of college. Nabers can hold his own in the short game, downfield, and can also run good crossers with his speed. He should be a threat right away and should see significant starting minutes in his first season. This is one of those prospects who would be listed higher most seasons, but a good fantasy team will be getting a valuable talent in the late first with Nabers.
10. QB Michael Penix Jr., Washington
Washington gained a valuable college talent when they secured the transfer of Michael Penix Jr. from Indiana. He had a strong 2022 season and now has begun 2023 where he left off, most recently performing with a 473-yard, four-touchdown game against Michigan State. Penix Jr. has come back from injury troubles and raised his stock back into a top-five quarterback for 2024. For dynasty managers, expect to get an athlete who makes good decisions. He doesn’t have the Ewers or Williams arm power, but he can still make great throws and takes care of the football (9 interceptions in 16 career games for the Huskies so far).
Penix Jr. may also benefit from being the QB4-5 in this upcoming class for fantasy. He may be sitting behind a Baker Mayfield in Tampa for a year, or taking over for a Desmond Ridder-led offense in Atlanta. He may end up somewhere with more weapons than if he was taken as a top-three quarterback, which could end up making him a very sensible investment late in rookie first rounds. He has some athleticism that should result in rushing production as well. For Penix Jr., it’s more about making good decisions and leading a new locker room of players, which Penix Jr. has experience doing.
11. WR Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State
Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr. will be making big plays for the Ohio State Buckeyes all season. The scheme and coaching have molded multiple impressive NFL wide receivers in the last few years, and these two players will follow that trend in 2024. Egbuka is going to be an ideal slot talent at the next level; he also has enough versatility that he should be able to develop his outside game as well. Egbuka is agile and has a smooth ability to run routes; he can be a perfect second option in an offense. Egbuka is going to find space and be productive, but so will other players from this class. Egbuka, Nabers, and even Penix Jr. are all victims of the class they’ll be in, but they should provide incredible value for late first-round selections. Getting Egbuka anywhere after the quarterbacks is a fine pick, and a great value here at 11th overall.
12. RB Donovan Edwards, Michigan
To close out the first-round rookie mock, let’s head to the Michigan backfield and talk about one of their young talents. Donovan Edwards hasn’t been the sole starter for the Wolverines, but he’s shown high-end ability by providing five 100-yard rushing games for the Wolverines in 2022. Edwards is an impressive route runner out of the backfield and that is his appeal here at the end of the first-round rookie drafts. He has youth on his side and hasn’t had to take on an entire rushing load in college.
He should impress more as the season goes on if he continues to develop his rushing and receiving skills. For managers in points per reception leagues, Edwards should be a consideration for a first-round pick across all leagues. He’s perfect for modern offenses and has shown speed and efficiency.
Clearly, this 2024 rookie first-round mock was dominated by high-end quarterbacks, but it also allowed big talents to fall to the end of the first round. Then there are position players such as Rome Odunze, Braelon Allen, or Michigan’s Blake Corum who could find themselves sneaking into next year’s first round. As of right now, this 2024 class looks to be promising for our Superflex leagues especially. There could end up being at least four or five open NFL quarterback jobs come next April, and it won’t be surprising if a few of these rookies are in line for them early. If they are taken early in the real draft, we’ll need to take them early in Superflex drafts. The position is going through turnover in the league and being ready for who’s next up will keep your team promising for the future.
