Fantasy Football – Start Of The Week

De’Von Achane @ WAS

The rule for my start of the week is to go beyond the obvious and pick a running back outside the top 24 FantasyPros consensus rankings. Going up against the Washington Commanders, De’Von Achane is my start of the week.

Deciding on my start of the week at the running back running back is a constant challenge. We’ve hit the point of the season where bye weeks and injuries are starting to pile up, especially at the running back position. Luckily, all the concern around change and his injury has made this start of the week very easy.

Although I’m not the biggest Achane fan, in what world is he the RB39? Even if you’re factoring his injury into play, the only way Achane would finish this low is if he had less than seven touches. There’s the case; there’s no point in the Dolphins bringing him back.

Right now, Achane is listed as questionable, but I’m under the assumption that he’ll play. In a recent article from Dolphins Wire, head coach Mike McDaniel said, “So any uncertainty with things of that nature, I didn’t think was very smart for him to put his best foot forward, and I felt good about what Raheem (Mostert) and Jeff (Wilson Jr.) were bringing to the table. So it just didn’t seem as prudent.”

Everything McDaniel described indicates that this injury is nothing serious. In the three games where Achane had over one carry, he’s averaging an absurd 33.27 PPG. Although I don’t expect this kind of efficiency to continue, and Achane’s injury may slightly limit his workload, there’s no reason to rank him outside the top 24.

We’ve seen that Achane doesn’t need a massive workload to have big games, and his upside is through the roof. It’s also worth mentioning that the Dolphins are 6.5-point favorites, and the Commanders have allowed the 12th most fantasy points to running backs (22.84 PPG). Of course, we’ll need to monitor Achane’s health up to game time, but this is an easy selection assuming he plays.
