Week-4-IDP-Waiver-Wire-Warnings

For all intents and purposes, the Week 4 IDP Waiver Wire Warnings are locked and loaded. Sharing our reasons why won’t be looking a particular player’s way as a starter or addition. Especially if the player just blew up out of nowhere in a fantasy football. And most NFL IDP waiver wires work “for” picking up a player. Not here though, we’re doing quite the opposite.

Instead, we’ll be pointing out any reasons why we should look for safer waiver wire options in some cases. And surprisingly enough, it all might not be the data, stats, or even matchup-related. It simply could be the IDP scenarios that we’re avoiding and not the player. And may also come with some good old NFL drama, beat-writer reports, or even locker-room rumors. And whatever gets the word out, we’ll cover it as a warning in any way that gets it out here.

Week 4 IDP Waiver Wire Warnings

1 – Nicholas Morrow – Philadelphia Eagles – ILB

Long-term, or for the bye-weeks, there’s going to be problems when Nakobe Dean (I.R.) resurfaces soonish. And at that point, no matter the size or format of the league. That’s simply an extra bye-week headache to deal with and a pivot can be made now. Instead of during those all-important bye-weeks that are coming up choices become slimmer. This one is a light avoid, based on the hassle around the corner and the potential he has no value down the road.

2 – Oren Burks – San Francisco 49ers – OLB/ILB

In Week 3 with 21 defensive snaps (42%). Burks was targeted five times and allowed four catches for minimal receiving yards. Recording five total tackles. And four stops in a performance he saw twice as many snaps as he’s ever averaged as the 49ers’ third linebacker. Hence, Dre Greenlaw is day-to-day with an ankle injury he sustained in this contest. So if he’s active, Burk is a 100% avoid and has no immediate upside, or on the season.

Additionally. If you’re thinking you need him as a direct replacement for Greenlaw in a deeper format, beware. The Cardinals are bottom third in allowing production on paper right now. So with Fred Waner leading the way at ILB, it’s simple. Burks hasn’t got much upside to a performance like his scenario had this past contest.

3 – Kayvon Thibodeaux – New York Giants – OLB/Edge Rusher
Our warning with Kayvon Thibodeaux comes down to two major points. The first would be, so far tracking him from the start of his career, there’s a problem with consistency. And Thibodeux was all over the map in the games he did stand out. Overachieving in weak edge rusher matchups and underachieving in strong ones. That’s really hard to trust.

The second is schedule on top of his slow start on the season and inconsistency at the same time. Coming up in Week 4 and Week 5. They face the Seahawks and Dolphins. And both are currently only allowing bottom-five production off the edge. So, here are a couple of the well-known IDPs that have been denied so far this year for comparison by either team.

The Seahawks shut down Aiden Hutchinson. And the Dolphins, Joey Bosa, and Kahlil Mack. So don’t start Thibodeux at the least this next week if you do land him off the waiver wire is the big warning here. Let’s make him earn it first with consecutive games. He either achieves or in this case, overachieves at least in Week 4. Making his current 2023 poor PFF grade even more relevant.

4 – Adrian Amos – Green Bay Packers – Safety

This one is more of a backup warning, but with Adrian Amos making an impact. We need to share that he is a backup and lost the shot at starting originally to a relatively unknown young guy. And that safety Tony Adams, just happened to go down with a hamstring injury during Week 2.

This catapulted Amos back out into the IDP waiver Wire mix. And likely as high up as standard league consideration with the Week 3 stats he recorded. So pivoting and considering that this is Adam’s first start he missed. They also didn’t put him on the injured reserves for the injury. And that has us assuming that it’s very likely Tony Adams could re-replace Amos as soon as this week.

So if you are grabbing Adrian Amos this week. It’s a very good possibility you’ll need to make another pickup by game day. Either way, if Adams doesn’t return. It’ll be repeating and rinsing the same headache scenario the following week. And this to us warrants a warning especially if we have other options that aren’t backups to choose from.

5 – Brian Branch / Tracy Walker – Detroit Lions – Safety

Joseph Kerby is one of the original and main starters on this defense this year. He was out this past contest and that has Tracy Walker, and especially Branch on everyone’s radar. And they should be when normally there is room for three productive safeties in Detriot.

However, those snaps go full-time for two of them and just part-time for the third. So the question is? When Kerby comes back, the odds are highly likely that either Branch or Walker will take the fall in snaps. So the more novice manager might not be able to tell by looking at the numbers alone. And in this case, snap counts aren’t a sure thing yet to lock anything down.
