Quarterback – Start Of The Week
Jared Goff @ TB
The rule for my start of the week is to go beyond the obvious and pick a quarterback outside the top 12 FantasyPros consensus rankings. Facing off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jared Goff is my start of the week.
Jared Goff is having a very solid season, averaging 18.8 PPG, which is good enough for QB11 on the year. Although Goff doesn’t have elite-level upside due to his lack of rushing ability, it doesn’t make sense to rank him outside the top 12 every week.
Goff is still in a great Lions offense and has scored 22.9 and 27.4 points this season, showing some upside. Jameson Williams is back, which will help the team from a real-life perspective, opening up things for the other receivers in this offense.
The Buccaneers’ defense isn’t bad by any means, but they’re not great, either. The Lions have an implied team total of 22.5 points, which is fantastic for Goff. According to Odds Shark, the Lions are only 2.5-point favorites, which means they should be in a good situation, but this game won’t be a blowout. We just want to make sure the Lions can’t run the ball the whole second half, which would be detrimental to Goff.
Goff likely won’t be a top-three guy this week, but you should absolutely be starting him. Assuming Amon-Ra St. Brown plays, you should be ecstatic about starting Goff in Week 6.
