Who is QB1 in the 2024 NFL Draft? Ranking the Top 5 QBs

The class of 2024 NFL Draft quarterback prospects is an electrifying one. It came with little questions, but once the season got rolling, there was a lot to discuss. The battle for QB1 has become a much closer race, and the depth is starting to show. Here are the top five quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft and who is taking the top spot.

5.  Michael Penix Jr., Washington

Penix has been on a tear this season, showcasing his arm talent and boosting the talent around him. With a strong arm and impressive accuracy, he quickly became a key player for the Huskies and put his name on the map last season. Penix’s ability to read defenses and make quick decisions made him a valuable asset on the field. Despite dealing with injuries at times, he displayed resilience and determination, showcasing his leadership qualities. Penix is an intriguing name for the 2024 NFL Draft and likely won’t make it out of the 2nd round.

4.  Shedeur Sanders, Colorado

Coming from Jackson State, Sanders has put Colorado back on the map this season. As the son of former NFL star Deion Sanders, he inherited an innate football sense. Shedeur possesses a strong arm, impressive field vision, and remarkable poise under pressure. He began to rise into first-round consideration early in the season, and while things haven’t been perfect, he’s still a top-tier quarterback prospect for the upcoming NFL Draft.

3. J.J. McCarthy, Michigan

McCarthy has put everything on display this season to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. His exceptional arm strength, precision, and ability to read defenses and make quick decisions on the field made him a standout performer in college football. He has the leadership qualities to be a franchise quarterback and run an NFL offense. While he’s not going to compete with the top two quarterbacks in this draft class, McCarthy and the rest of the top five prove how deep this class is.

2. Drake Maye, North Carolina

The question is beginning to be a legitimate one — who is the QB1? Drake Maye or Caleb Williams? Maye’s film this season has been nothing short of spectacular. His strong arm, impressive accuracy, and a natural football IQ are putting him in a position to be the first quarterback selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. Maye’s ability to make quick decisions and adapt to different game situations showcased his versatility on the field. The next few months will be an interesting one to debate the question.

1. Caleb Williams, USC

The season for Williams and USC has been a rollercoaster. From being a top-tier College Football Playoff contender to dropping two games with rumors to follow of Williams sitting out the rest of the season and potentially not even declaring because of the team having the potential first overall pick — it’s been eventful. Needless to say, he’s one of the best quarterback prospects we’ve seen in the recent drafts. His exceptional athleticism, strong arm, and remarkable field vision while making Patrick Mahomes-esq throws are why he should still be considered the best quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.
