Best ball takes the thrill of drafting to a whole new level by making it the main event. You get to experience the adrenaline rush of building your dream team without the added stress of managing multiple lineups every week. Best Ball Draft Strategies

Quarterbacks

Now, let’s talk draft strategies for best ball leagues. Quarterbacks and running backs are crucial positions to consider. While you don’t have to spend an early-round pick on a quarterback, finding a reliable one is key to anchoring your team.

Consider stacking by selecting players from the same team. This strategy enhances your team’s potential as your quarterback’s success often relies on connecting with the players you also roster. Aim for at least two quarterbacks, but having more than three is not recommended unless your QB1 is exceptional. With stacking, you will want to draft a quarterback like Joe Burrow or Jalen Hurts, then grab wide receivers like Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, AJ Brown, or DeVonta Smith later.

Running Backs

Furthermore, running backs hold immense value in best ball leagues. It’s wise to have a strong running back as the cornerstone of your team and build around talented wide receivers. Look for RB2s in Rounds 3-5 and seek RB3s with upside in Rounds 6-9. This approach allows you to secure reliable running backs while still focusing on other positions. However, when it comes to wide receivers, you can afford to wait a bit during the draft.

On the flip side, you can use the “Zero-RB” approach. Personally, I wouldn’t highly recommend it, but it’s certainly a strategy that has gained popularity in recent years. With it, you’ll want to grab your wide receivers and tight ends early, then wait until later to grab late-round flyer options at the running back position. Backfields like the Bills or Dolphins would be good ones to target with this draft strategy as their running back situations are a bit up in the air, and going later in drafts.

Wide Receivers

The NFL‘s pass-oriented nature provides a surplus of capable receivers to choose from. To maximize your chances of success in best ball leagues, aim to have a roster of 7-9 wide receivers. Avoid chasing volatile receivers and prioritize consistency, as more usable weeks from your wide receivers will benefit your team overall. And if possible, consider deviating slightly from the average draft position (ADP) to secure a stack with your quarterback.

Based on recent years, you might consider drafting a wide receiver with your first pick. Drafting an elite wide receiver such as Justin Jefferson or Ja’Marr Chase can be a solid draft strategy. With the landscape of running backs in recent years, drafting an elite wide receiver so early makes sense.

Tight Ends

Tight ends can be a bit trickier to draft in best ball due to their unpredictable production. While elite tight ends like Travis Kelce hold great value, the drop-off in production after the top tier is significant. If you can’t secure an elite tight end early, consider “punting” the position and focusing on other positions instead. Opt for three touchdown-dependent TE2s to increase the odds of scoring from one of them each week. It can be a viable strategy to make up for the lack of a dominant tight end on your teams.

One draft strategy you can use is simply drafting Kelce in the first round. With that, you can build the rest of your lineup and not even have to worry about another tight end. Yes, you might grab another late-round tight-end flyer such as David Njoku or Chigoziem Okonkwo. However, grabbing Kelce early on just really takes care of the position and gives you a massive edge overall.

Remember, best ball is all about enjoying the drafting process without the hassle of managing lineups. So have a blast, draft with a smart strategy, and may your team excel in your best ball fantasy football leagues!
