Fantasy Football Outlook

Herbert signed the largest contract in NFL history with an average of $52.5 million. For the upcoming season, he’ll be the highest-paid signal caller in the NFL.

Last season, Herbert was poised for another big season after putting up 5,014 yards passing yards, and 302 rushing yards along with 41 touchdowns in his sophomore season. However, Herbert fractured his ribs in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs and never looked the same. Yet, in those first two games of the season, Herbert looked poised to put up elite numbers once again as he had six passing touchdowns.

While that didn’t happen, Herbert was able to throw over 250 yards in 11 of 17 (64.7%) of his games. Yet, threw one or fewer touchdowns in about half his games.

Although he may be throwing up red flags toward fantasy football managers now, he is the all-time leader in passing yards (14,089), passing touchdowns (94), total touchdowns (102), and games with 300-plus passing yards (22) among quarterbacks in their first three seasons. Overall, buy the dip as he is QB per FantasyPros expert consensus rankings (ECR).

After two seasons, the Chargers have moved on from offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and have hired ex-Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. In four seasons as the Cowboys’ OC, Moore ranked second in the NFL in total offense (391 yards per game) and points per game (27.7). Additionally, the Dallas offense was the fourth-best passing offense (264.4 yards per game) and ranked seventh in the league in rushing offense (126.6). This alone should get you excited about Herbert and the offense.

Yet, the injury woes this team had last season also affected Herbert’s overall stat line. For the majority of the season, he didn’t have his two top-receiving weapons Keenan Allen and Mike Williams on the field together. The injury first-round pick on TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston. This alone gives Herbert a weapon he needs, especially if one of Allen or Williams is to miss time.

With the way this offense is shaping up and with Herbert locked in for years to come, expect a nice bounce-back season from him as he looks to jump back into the top-3 conversation.

Dynasty Outlook

With a new five-year deal with the Chargers, Herbert is a locked-in top-five quarterback at his position. With aging contracts in Austin Ekeler,  Keenan Allen, and Mike Williams, this team is pushing to win now and beyond. Needless to say, there should be no worries about this offense with the addition of Johnston as it only boosts Herbert’s overall outlook.
